WWE One Night Stand 2008: TLC Ends the Night on a High Note
WWE TLC is now only three days away. The anticipation is growing with every passing day, and the event is sure to deliver in a big way.
With that being said, I will take one final look at a past TLC match. Today, I want to focus on WWE's One Night Stand over three years ago where TLC was the main event of the evening. It certainly saved the show, but it wasn't an entirely bad show.
Jeff Hardy Defeated Umaga in a Falls Count Anywhere Match

Modern-Day Dream Matches 💭

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
This was a great match to begin the program. Jeff Hardy was poised to have a great second half of 2008, and that all began on this night. Umaga was always a "go-to" talent, and he did a fine job here as well. You add in a high-risk stunt to close the match, and you have a winner!
Big Show Defeated CM Punk, Chavo, John Morrison and Tommy Dreamer in a Singapore Cane Match to Earn a ECW Title Match Against Kane at Night of Champions
This was a lot of fun. Big Show was the favorite from the beginning, and the outcome was never in doubt. However, the ride to the finish was classic hardcore fun. The icing on the cake was Shawn Merriman (NFL player getting involved from the audience). Great job!
John Cena Defeated JBL in a First Blood Match
I am a John Cena fan. I am a huge JBL. However, their matches in 2008 did not do it for me. JBL won their match in July, but this one was not very good. The stipulation was bad enough, but the ending all but sealed its fate.
Beth Phoenix Defeated Melina in an I Quit Match for the Women's Title
I could be wrong, but I do not remember WWE ever having the Divas compete in an I Quit match. These two were the perfect candidates to have such a match. Beth picked up the win, while Melina used her flexibility to put over Beth's strength. Well done!
Batista Defeated Shawn Michaels in a Stretcher Match
This was not really a feud. Batista was used to extend the epic HBK vs. Jericho feud from 2008, but this match still delivered. The big man picked up the win, but the involvement from Chris Jericho was the real story.
Triple H Defeated Randy Orton to Retain the WWE Title in a Last Man Standing Match
This was fine. It was not a classic or anything like that, but these two had a good back-and-forth match. Triple H wasn't losing his title here, so WWE had to be clever with the finish. Sadly, Mr. RKO got injured during the battle and was out of action for a few months afterwards.
Edge Defeated Undertaker in a TLC Match to Capture the World Title and Banish Undertaker from WWE
This was during Vickie Guerrero's run as SmackDown general manager, and she was making Undertaker's life miserable. Yes, 'Taker eventually came back, but this match (and storyline) was still outstanding over three years ago.
This night had been pretty entertaining. It was nothing great, but it was an OK PPV offering. By the end of the night, fans were sure to remember this event for a long, long time. Edge and Undertaker pulled out all the stops and then some.
I have said in the past that Undertaker did far too much in this match. To me, it was too much. To Undertaker, it was just doing his job.
The man went above and beyond what he should have. That is why he is one of the greatest. Nights like this are why he will always be respected more than just about anybody in the history of the business.
My hat goes off to everybody who performed on this 2008 PPV show. Nearly every match was either fine or good. Nothing, though, could touch the greatness of the main event. Yet again, a TLC match comes through for the WWE Universe, and it continues its run of amazing moments!
