Chris Paul to Blake Griffin: Ranking the Best Passer-Finisher Combos in the NBA

Ethan NorofDec 15, 2011

A Chris Paul to Blake Griffin alley-oop for the Los Angeles Clippers already has a new nickname: "Lob City."

While there's no question that Paul and Griffin will combine for some seriously entertaining highlight-style plays, there is a ton of athleticism around the league and there are several other teams with the ability to captivate fans.

There's going to be a lot to watch in a shortened season, but nothing creates quite the same stir as an electric finish at the rim.

Mike Conley to Marc Gasol

1 of 15

Conley to Gasol might not excite some fans around the league, but these two are capable of creating some sweet music at the cup.

Although he's not a phenomenal passer, Conley is certainly capable of lobbing it up to Gasol, who can physically outmatch a fair amount of his opposition.

Jrue Holiday to Thaddeus Young

2 of 15

Young hasn't received the playing time he deserves due to the presence of Andre Iguodala, but his intriguing athleticism and decision to re-sign would seemingly point to an increased role this year.

With Holiday developing as a passer and Young's potential about to explode through the roof, it wouldn't be a shock at all to see these two on SportsCenter during the "Top 10 Plays" segment.

Ty Lawson to Timofey Mozgov

3 of 15

Newcomer Andre Miller might steal a few opportunities from Lawson to lob it up to Mozgov, but the big man is far more athletic than many may realize.

There's a lot to like about what's being done in Denver, and there's no question Mozgov will turn some heads this season after being the victim of this infamous dunk.

Rajon Rondo to Kevin Garnett

4 of 15

Rondo seems to find his teammates no matter where they are on the floor, and Garnett is going to have to be hanging around the basket frequently this season.

There's no reason for Garnett not to assert himself at the rim given his on-court tenacity, and Rondo will find him more often than not without a true center on the roster beyond Jermaine O'Neal and Greg Stiemsma.

Brandon Jennings to Andrew Bogut

5 of 15

It's about time for the Bucks to finally make some noise with a healthy Bogut in the mix, and Jennings is going to benefit as a result.

The speedy point guard has to take less ill-advised shots and begin to find his big man where he does his best work, and that shouldn't be difficult this year considering the presence Bogut brings inside.

Jeff Teague to Josh Smith

6 of 15

The Hawks are finally ready to turn the keys over to Teague this season, and Smith should see his fair share of opportunities to slam it home as a result.

The young point guard can find his unbelievably athletic forward in a variety of spots on the floor, and the opposition always has a tough time guarding Smith considering the mismatch he presents.

Jameer Nelson to Dwight Howard

7 of 15

This obviously isn't so much about Nelson as it is Howard, because when Superman decides he's ready to elevate, there is nobody truly capable of stopping him.

In addition to being physically dominant, Howard's athleticism is superior to almost everyone he lines up against, and there's just no proper way to attempt to contain him when he takes flight.

Deron Williams to Brook Lopez

8 of 15

Williams can throw an alley-oop to just about anyone, so the fact that he has a legitimate seven-footer on his current roster helps his cause.

It would be great to see what Williams would be capable of doing if he had a more athletic running mate for the alley-oop, but his unbelievable passing skills elevate Lopez's attack down low.

Steve Nash to Marcin Gortat

9 of 15

The pick-and-roll attack in Phoenix has been fun to watch since Gortat's arrival, and we should see more of that continuing this season.

Nash can find a way to dish the rock regardless of where he is on the floor or where his teammates might be coming from, and Gortat isn't afraid to move without the basketball in his hands.

Tyreke Evans to DeMarcus Cousins

10 of 15

Evans didn't get to play much during Cousins' rookie season due to an ongoing bout with plantar fasciitis, but the two youngsters should have Sacramento plenty excited during the upcoming season.

Both players are just dripping with athleticism, and it will be absolutely awesome to see what the two are capable of during the upcoming campaign.

John Wall to JaVale McGee

11 of 15

Wall's rookie season was overshadowed by the Blake Griffin hype, but there's no doubt that this kid has an unbelievable future ahead of him as a dynamic player in this league.

The athleticism McGee brings to the table with his ability to jump and dunk the basketball paired Wall's ability to find him when he rises up is going to make some fans jump right out of their seats for the foreseeable future.

Russell Westbrook to Serge Ibaka

12 of 15

The focus for some when discussing the Thunder is around Kevin Durant and Westbrook, but Ibaka's explosiveness near the basket is something that just can't be ignored.

He's got the ability to impact a game on his own, and Westbrook could be looking for him often with the defense focusing on stopping Durant.

Chris Paul to DeAndre Jordan

13 of 15

The only player that dunked more often last season than Blake Griffin was DeAndre Jordan, and there shouldn't be anyone happier about Chris Paul's Los Angeles arrival than the center.

Paul is going to be looking for Jordan regularly as the center makes his living from inside the paint, and now Jordan is the unquestioned starter with Chris Kaman now headed to New Orleans.

Dwyane Wade to LeBron James

14 of 15

Wade and James impressed every basketball fan watching last season when the duo successfully executed a full-court pass without a dribble, but that was just a sample of what these guys can do.

This time around, we can expect more exciting plays like this one, where the two premier players just make the game look too easy.

Chris Paul to Blake Griffin

15 of 15

Remember what Griffin did last season with Baron Davis as his point guard?

How about the dunks he was able to throw down with Mo Williams running the offense?

Well, now he's got Chris Paul.

The dunk contest during All-Star weekend could be dedicated solely Paul and Griffin performing, and there might still be just as much interest in the event as there is normally.
