WWE Opinion: Everything in Wrestling Makes Sense When It Comes from John Cena
For the first time ever, I think I am going to jump on the John Cena bandwagon.
As many of you know by reading my columns and looking through slideshows, I am an old-school NWA relic who finds that the best wrestling comes from the likes of Harley Race, Jack Brisco and Ric Flair. I have a hard time dealing with these so-called wrestlers from the past that were cartoon characters and part of the northern circus.
I bleed NWA southern roots and I am damn proud of it.

That is why I am so critical of TNA and what it has done and what it can do.
But for this column, I am a John Cena fan.
Yes, I know I may be going to wrestling hell for this, but here is what I am talking about.
In the Tuesday night edition of “Tribute to the Troops” that the WWE puts on to support our military, I was actually moved by what I saw at the end of the night. Almost in tears actually from what I heard and witnessed.
Whether we like it or don’t like it, John Cena is still the face of this company.
While there are a few better on the mic (Jericho, Punk, Rock), Cena is the voice everyone listens to when it comes to what we all can stand by: patriotism.
No one in the WWE, or TNA, or ROH, or any other independent brand out there can stir the emotions and bring down the house when it comes to the red, white and blue like John Cena. And it would appear even his peers admire the strength and dedication this man puts forth to support “Old Glory” and what our country stands for.
Again, it moved me to tears.
As a man who never served but feels an overwhelming sense of pride in our country, I believe in the message. I believe in the cause and the message the 10-Time champion sends out each week. And then, it hit me. It would be damn near next to impossible for Cena to turn heel when he delivers messages like that.
How can he turn his back on all that?
Cena has been saying all along there are pockets of fans that feel a certain way toward him and there are some who are against him. He knows what he believes in and who is dedicated and true to.
Imagine him turning his back on the fans and, in a sense, “Old Glory” and the impact it would have on the WWE.
While it would be popular at first, the fanbase and dichotomy of the masses would shift and there would not be the leader of the masses through patriotism. It is bigger than Hulkamania in that sense, bigger than the Attitude Era and bigger than anything Bruno Sammartino, Ric Flair or Lou Thesz accomplished.
It is that niche that helps to separate the WWE from others.
There will none other like it.
So on a night where patriotism reigned and the show was for our men and women who sacrifice it all every day, it took one man and a cast of great performers to put it all in perspective.
The most oddly-original reality program may be the most patriotic of all. And the most vanilla of its heroes may be the most patriotic character of all time.
