The Great Brett Favre Aka Coach Killer

Parrish NotesDec 30, 2008

Has anyone noticed that Brett Favre is a coach killer? Ok, stop throwing rocks and long sound bites, "It's the great Brett that you are talking about dude—he has a Super Bowl!" Yea, so does Trent Dilfer; I digress.

First, it was 1998...Mike Holmgren bolted for a Seattle franchise, that at the time, was begging for help after Dennis Erickson. Bolted or punished by the Great Brett?  By 1999, Ray Rhodes was pinched for management issues and style points (yep, the same song in Chicago these days: no foreshadowing), but the Great Brett helped pull the trigger on the "good guy."

Years went by, but Mike Sherman got greedy trying to juggle too many hats and the Great Brett sent him on his way in 2005.

In 2006, Mike McCarthy reentered Green Bay, after the '99 coaching staff neck chops. Ironically, he was the QB coach during the good years and most likely to be a friend of a friend of a buddy to the Great Brett.

But, things changed in 2008. The Great Brett, instead of stepping on McCarthy's neck, decided to take his ball and play at another park: "Y'all, get y'all own ball...you ain't playing with mine no more. Mike you best be glad that I like you bud."

Now, a side note for you Lions fans, the Great Brett made a phone call to your coaches this year...Ah, what's your record? To the big city we go...

Eric Mangini was minding his own business: hiding behind spy gate, inter-league fighting with New England, and loving the fact that other New York teams were worse (Knicks) and much better (Giants).

However, his mediocrity party came to a quick stop when the Great Brett came to town—"Why me lord, oh why me?" Mangini, the team guy, said "We would love to have Brett Favre on our team."

Really? Did you hear it—"Why me lord, oh why me? I was minding my own business, making $1.75 million, doing Sopranos, and pseudo hating the Patriots to keep it hyped in the AFC East."

Now on Dec. 30, 2008, another coach is gone and the Great Brett is still dogging questions about RETIRING and doing Wrangler Ads. He is not TO by any stretch of the imagination, but I am willing to bet that they are cousins.
