Where Are They Now: The Fates of 11 Missing Men from the UFC
Fame is fleeting, especially so in MMA where you're only as good as your last fight.
There have been various prominent figures throughout MMA history, but several of them, both old and (relatively) new, have seemingly vanished into thin air; they haven't been discussed by anyone in quite some time.
So which fighters are "lost" to the majority of MMA fans and what have they been doing these days? Read and find out!
David Terrell
1 of 11Famous for: Knocking out Matt Lindland (before half of the middleweight division had done it, back when it meant something).
Last seen in the UFC: Submission victory over Scott Smith at UFC 59 on April 15th, 2006.
Where is he now?: Lost in space. Terrell was a prospect at middleweight back in the early 2000s, but a string of injuries (which included a nasty inner-ear infection) keeping him out of the Octagon for nearly two years got him fired from the UFC.
He hasn't fought since then, despite expressing a desire to do so back in 2010. It's been a while since then, and it's doubtful he's ever coming back.
Dave Menne
2 of 11Famous for: Being the very first middleweight champion in UFC history.
Last seen in the UFC: TKO loss to Luigi Fioravanti at UFC Fight Night 7 on December 13th, 2006.
Where is he now?: Despite his age and somewhat dated skill set, Menne persevered in MMA and eventually found his way to Bellator. He went 1-1 in the organization and hasn't returned since.
Most recently, Menne defeated Ultimate Fighter Season 11 veteran Eric Davila at UWF 1: Huerta vs. War Machine this past November, proving that the old dog still has it.
Sean Salmon
3 of 11Famous for: Getting knocked out by Rashad Evans.
Last seen in the UFC: Submission loss to Alan Belcher at UFC 71 on May 26th, 2007.
Where is he now?: After leaving the UFC, Salmon stuck to the local circuit and was even a part-time columnist for MMAjunkie.com (where he was the cause of controversy when he admitted that he threw a fight).
Unfortunately, his endeavors in the regional scene weren't very successful. He left the UFC at 9-3, and he is now 18-16 and on a seven-fight losing streak. His most recent loss was to early UFC veteran LaVerne Clark in August.
Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou
4 of 11Famous for: Knocking out Ricardo Arona and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (a.k.a. Lil Nog), and being overly hyped because of said victories.
Last seen in the UFC: Knockout loss to Luiz Cane at UFC 89 on October 18th, 2008.
Where is he now?: In a bad place. Sokoudjou is 7-7 since leaving the UFC and is barely over .500 at 12-10. He is on a two-fight losing streak and most recently lost to Jan Blachowicz at a KSW (Polish MMA promotion) event back in November.
Pete Sell
5 of 11Famous for: Choking out Phil Baroni, losing to Scott Smith in epic fashion.
Last seen in the UFC: TKO loss to Matt Brown at UFC 96 on March 7th, 2009.
Where is he now?: It took Sell over two years to return to MMA after the loss to Brown, but he finally came back in June 2011. He defeated Elijah Harshbarger by submission at Ring of Combat XXXVI.
Any hopes of a winning streak and eventual comeback to the UFC were unfortunately snuffed out for Sell when he lost to Canadian Nordine Taleb a month ago at Ring of Combat XXXVIII.
Junie Browning
6 of 11Famous for: Being the "bad boy" on the eighth season of The Ultimate Fighter.
Last seen in the UFC: Submission loss to Cole Miller at UFC Fight Night 18 on April 1st, 2009.
Where is he now?: Wanted in Thailand. No seriously, he's wanted for allegedly instigating a bar fight, beating the victim up and continuing the fight in the hospital a la Nick Diaz and Joe Riggs.
Browning wasn't doing well before his recent escapades in Thailand.
In 2009, Browning was arrested after assaulting nurses in a Nevada hospital.
His MMA record reflects the trouble of his post-UFC life. He is currently 4-5, most recently having submitted to strikes in August against the now 9-5 Jason Clark.
Travis Lutter
7 of 11Famous For: Being one of two winners on The Ultimate Fighter Season 4, missing weight in a title fight against Anderson Silva.
Last seen in the UFC: TKO loss to Rich Franklin at UFC 83 on April 19th, 2009.
Where is he now: Lutter hasn't fought since a May 2010 loss to Rafael Natal. He now teaches his craft in Fort Worth, Texas.
Kalib Starnes
8 of 11Famous for: One of the worst "fights" in UFC history against Nate Quarry at UFC 83 on April 19th, 2009.
Last seen in the UFC: See above.
Where is he now?: Retired. After being booted by the UFC, Starnes went 4-4. He ended his career on a two-fight losing streak. His last fight was a loss to fellow UFC veteran John Salter in June 2011. Starnes retired afterwards.
Houston Alexander
9 of 11Famous for: Knocking out Keith Jardine, losing to Kimbo Slice.
Last seen in the UFC: Unanimous decision loss to Kimbo Slice at The Ultimate Fighter Season 10 finale on December 5th, 2009.
Where is he now?: After the loss to Slice, Alexander fought on smaller, more regional cards. He has gone 4-2-1 since leaving the UFC, with notable wins over Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou and Razak Al-Hassan.
His most recent fight was a loss to Canadian prospect Steve Bossé. Alexander had aspirations to do what Randy Couture did, but after the losing to Bossé, who knows what's going through Alexander's mind.
Phillipe Nover
10 of 11Famous for: Being lauded as the next Anderson Silva but being a total bust.
Last seen in the UFC: Decision loss to Rob Emerson at UFC 109 on February 6th, 2010.
Where is he now: Bellator, but not after a hiatus from the sport.
After going 0-3 in the UFC, Nover took a year off from the sport and eventually made a comeback at a regional show, winning by decision.
Nover lost his Bellator debut to the Polish fighter Marcin Held, by controversial split decision.
Matt Serra
11 of 11Famous for: Beating Georges St-Pierre in arguably the greatest upset of all time and feuding with Matt Hughes on The Ultimate Fighter Season 6.
Last seen in the UFC: Unanimous decision loss to Chris Lytle at UFC 119 on September 25th, 2010.
Where is he now?: Serra has yet to be officially released by the UFC, but he hasn't been scheduled to fight in a while either, so his status is in limbo as of now. Even UFC president Dana White is unsure.
What is known for sure is that he would need some time to get into fighting shape since, as he admitted to Ariel Helwani, his physical condition isn't what it should be due to the birth of his second child and the opening of a second new academy on Long Island.
