NBA Rumors: Where Jamal Crawford Might Sign After Turning Down Pacers

Dan FavaleDec 14, 2011

Jamal Crawford turned down a two-year, $10 million contract offer from the Indiana Pacers, and is now rumored to be considering three possible landing spots for next season.

Crawford is amenable inking a short-term deal, as there are a large number of teams with cap space next summer, giving him a better chance at receiving a long-term, cash-latent contract.

So for now, Crawford essentially needs to find an organization with whom he wouldn't mind playing for at least one season.

Sacramento Kings

The Kings are one of the three teams that Crawford is reportedly considering signing with.

While Sacramento doesn't present the best chance to win, it is offering the most money at $6.5 million. It is also believed that Crawford could wind up starting for the Kings, as they look to add some high-level scoring and veteran leadership to their rotation.

That being said, with Sacramento already boasting the likes of Marcus Thornton, Tyreke Evans, John Salmons and Jimmer Fredette, it is possible that Crawford doesn't land a starting job.

Regardless, the prospect of becoming a full-time starter once again, along with the best contract that is being offered, is certainly enough to make the Kings a legitimate potential landing spot.

Portland Trail Blazers

Portland is offering $5 million for Crawford's services according to Jason Quick of The Oregonian, which is only slightly less than what Sacramento is dangling.

After Brandon Roy's retirement, the Trail Blazers could use an extra offensive weapon on the perimeter to go along with Wesley Matthews and Nicolas Batum. There is also the fact that Portland is a playoff—and potentially championship—caliber team.

If Crawford comes to the conclusion that he can play an integral role on a team poised to make a deep playoff run, then the Blazers could easily become favorites.

New York Knicks

The Knicks continue to remain a possible destination for Crawford, despite the fact that they can only offer a starting salary of $2.5 million.

New York can always attempt to acquire the combo-guard via a sign-and-trade, but that would cost unnecessary assets, and they would be forced to get a third team involved at the Hawks' request, for luxury tax reasons.

Crawford is familiar with the city of New York, and has even had a taste of Mike D'Antoni's high-octane offense, making him a perfect addition for the Knicks.

He would likely continue to come off the bench behind Landry Fields, but would be on a team headed for the postseason. He also stands to get extra minutes at the 1 as well.

If Crawford doesn't mind accepting less to come and play for a higher-caliber team, then the Knicks would become instant favorites. Whether or not he is amenable to such a pay cut, even if only for one year, remains to be seen.
