Dallas Cowboys: Most Talented Team? Really? How About Most Disappointing?

Orlando MoralesDec 29, 2008

I am sad to admit this, but I took the bait, hook line and sinker. At the beginning of the season, I thought the Cowboys were the most talented team in football and were a true threat for a trip to the Super Bowl.

We are so quick to look at the names on this team and think they're the most talented team in football.

But, looking back on this season and how it ended, it's glaringly obvious that Dallas is no more talented than the Giants, Eagles, or Panthers. Sorry, upset Dallas fans, it's true.

I place 200 percent of the blame on owner Jerry Jones. Jerry thinks he's doing the fans and the city justice by bringing in high profile, high-publicity players. But, he's really just building everyone up for more disappointment.

Hey, as an Eagles' fan, I love watching the Cowboys and their fans squirm, just as they did on Sunday. But, when you look at it from a Dallas fan's point of view, it's probably more disappointing than the Eagles of years past.

Let's go down the list of names shall we: Tony R...wait. That's all it is, just a list of names.

So many people, including me, got reeled in by a laundry list of high-profile names. Names of players who are hyped up by Jerry Jones and his coaches. Tony Romo is a prime example. The media hypes this guy up like he's a god before he even sees regular-season action.

So, when he finally gets his chance, he comes in and wins a few, then chokes it up in December and January. He chokes. That's it, he's no Tom Brady nor Brett Favre.

It's not all Romo's fault. He has one of the biggest offensive lines I've ever seen. But, they are so undisciplined, so out of sync, and so inconsistent that I don't know of any quarterback that would play well with them.

Now, let's get to their receivers. Roy Williams was hailed as the Cowboys' savior when Dallas traded their 2009 draft  to get him. How's that worked out for them? Williams was ineffective from the moment he strapped on that helmet.

Roy looks like he's running in quicksand while running his routes. Who knows when he's running the correct route? You could make a case that trading for Roy Williams was the worst move Dallas has made in a long time.

Ha. Just to think Eagles' fans, we were angry when the front office failed to trade for him.

Now, let's get to the most hated Cowboy in Eagles' history (makes sense, doesn't it). Terrell Owens (a.k.a The Destroyer of Teams).

Let's see, three teams, three quality quarterbacks, and three train wrecks. T.O. has single-handedly destroyed three teams.

As soon as his production dips or he has the slightest riff with the quarterback, he starts flapping his gums and complaining that he needs to be more involved. The little confrontation between Owens and All-Pro Jason Witten earlier in the year is a prime example.

Owens started complaining that Romo and Witten were secretly drawing up plays behind his back and Witten got more balls thrown his way. At the time, Owens had about 20 or more balls thrown his way than Witten. Here's the thing, Witten still had more catches, do you know why? T.O. drops too many passes.

Now to the defense. When I look at the Dallas defense, I only see four players out of 11 that I can say are true quality players: Ken Hamlin, DeMarcus Ware, Jay Ratliff, and Bradie James.

Only four of those 11 players are truly good players to me. There's no depth on the defensive line, at the safety position, nor at cornerback. Now, please, how is that suppose to be the league's most talented team?

The 2008 Cowboys should go down in NFL history as the NFL's most overrated team.
