NBA Free Agents: Power Ranking the Best Remaining Free Agents

Brian MaziqueDec 13, 2011

This past draft and free agent class have constituted the worse crop of potential non-trade acquisitions in recent memory.

Throw in the NBA lockout and this has been a pretty undesirable NBA offseason. Many players have found a home and plenty of the leagues' rookies have signed.

Here is a ranking of the top 10 remaining free-agents.

10. Al Thornton

1 of 10

Thornton was once a promising, young and athletic small forward. Now at 28, Thornton is clearly on the major decline. Last year he played in only 22 games for Golden State as he averaged only 4.6 points per game.

At this point, his signing would be for the purpose of filling a roster and spending the required percentage of the cap.

9. Shawne Williams

2 of 10

Shawne Williams has made himself into the new-old Antoine Walker. Williams game is very similar to the post Celtics Walker. He is a big with a good stroke from three.

He fits in very well with a few teams. The incumbent Knicks still want to bring him back, but he may slip away as team's looking for floor spacers swoop in.

8. Josh Howard

3 of 10

Howard is still a solid defender if he's healthy, but those concerns outweigh the positives for me. He has not played in more than 50 games since 2007-2008.

Even with that, the Spurs and Jazz are hot on Howard's trail. That tells you about the lack of depth in this offseason's free-agent market.

7. Samuel Dalembert

4 of 10

As much as Dalembert has under achieved, he could be a big help for the right team. The main team that could use his services would be the Miami Heat, but depending on his contract demands, that may not be possible.

If he lands with a non-contender, his signing will be an uneventful one.

6. Marco Belinelli

5 of 10

Belinelli is a quality role player. He can score, with special efficiency from the arc. Belinelli shot 41 percent from three last year.

5. Kris Humphries

6 of 10

Humphries had an eventful offseason, even without considering the NBA lockout, but his play last year was solid. He averaged a double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

It seems that he would like to return to New Jersey, but apparently he is Plan C, after Dwight Howard and Nene.

4. Arron Afflalo

7 of 10

Afflalo is the most complete player left on the free-agent board. He is an excellent shooter from three. He's not great in any other category, but solid in all.

He also is a great fit in Chicago, but the Nuggets seem intent on keeping him, even if that means, slightly overpaying the restricted free agent.

3. Jamal Crawford

8 of 10

Crawford is pure offense, but is his defense is nearly non-existent. If he is placed on a team as a sixth-man, employed to deliver instant offense off the bench, he is a definite weapon.

The Bulls could use him, but Crawford to the Knicks further drags NY into the defense-less abyss.

2. Nene

9 of 10

Nene has a pulse and he's 6'11"—that'll get you $5 million a year by itself. The fact that he also averaged 15 points and 7.5 rebounds per game last year is going to make him richer than it should.

He is a quality big man, which is the most talent-starved position. These factors will lead to a lucrative multi-year deal for the Nuggets unrestricted free agent.

1. Rodney Stuckey

10 of 10

Stuckey is the most underrated player in this free-agent class. He is a 6'5" guard that can play either backcourt position. He has good handle and has a knack for taking and making big shots.

Joe Dumars indicated he will jump high to match any offer for the restricted free agent and he just may have to if he wants to keep him.
