Jerry Sandusky Waives Preliminary Hearing, Case Will Move to Trial
Jerry Sandusky was set to have a preliminary hearing on Tuesday morning, but he chose to waive it and now the case will move to trial.
The Associated Press broke the news on Twitter, and the many other media outlets at the hearing continued to give further updates.
This is a bold move by Sandusky, but in doing so he prevented 11 witnesses from testifying, according to The Daily Collegian.
The paper also reported that Mike McQueary was expected to testify on Tuesday. Sandusky's continued claims of innocence would have been crushed if McQueary and all the alleged victims spoke against him.
Several people were prepared for a whirlwind of a day, but Sandusky threw many of them for a loop. Media members thought they'd be getting a story out about the hearing and how horrified these alleged victims must have been.
Instead, Sandusky is gone and the wait for his possible punishment is pushed back even further.
Sandusky's arraignment will take place on January 11th, according to Ben Jones, a reporter from StateCollege.com. Jones also tweeted what this news could mean for Penn State fans.
The things these witnesses had to say were very important not only for the case but also for them getting some closure on what all has happened.
Of course, they won't feel this is completely over until justice is served, but like any major scandal, the legal side of things will drag out.
For those who wanted Sandusky to go away and stop being a prominent figure in the news, get over it because he's going to be talked about months to come.
