WWE Unforgiven 2006: Top 5 Moments on a Night Where TLC Stood out Again

Justin WatryDec 12, 2011

WWE TLC is only six days away, and the hype continues to get stronger and stronger. The match has always delivered, and the PPV show should only even better.

Today, I want to focus on one of the best PPV shows of the past decade. Unforgiven 2006 had many memorable moments, but it was the main event that once again left the final mark. Let's get to the top five moments from this eventful evening in Toronto.

5. Super RKO to Carlito

1 of 5

Randy Orton and Carlito had a great feud going back in 2006. While the winner was never in doubt, they each had a great performance.

The ending to their battle was one of the better finales to a match. Carlito came flying off the top rope right into an RKO from Orton. Just like that, it was over. Amazing.

4. Kane and Umaga Shine

2 of 5

I did not like their ending here. They had a great back and forth match, only to end in a double count out? I am not a fan of doing such a thing on PPV.

Thankfully, there was more to come from these two, and it more than made up for a weak end. Great job to both men in establishing Umaga as a top talent, as Kane made his way over to Smackdown weeks later.

3. DX vs. Big Show and the McMahons

3 of 5

This was the conclusion to the feud with Shawn Michaels and Triple H battling their bosses. Shane and Vince McMahon had been causing DX problems from day one, and this was to end it all!

Add in the Big Show. Add in the 20-foot Heck on a Deck structure. You have a classic setting...

The match was a prime example of what all five men can do. Triple H and Michaels can do everything inside the squared circle. Vince can add to the match with his reactions. Shane can do some high spots. Big Show can be the powerful big man.

All of it added up nicely to a fitting ending, and the crowd loved every second of it.

2. Trish Stratus Says Goodbye

4 of 5

In Canada. Against Lita. For the Women's title. Her final match.

Wow! You can't add any more emotion if you tried. It was all on the line here with Trish's last match in WWE. It was only made better that Lita was playing the heel here.

WWE had a great story involved, and the crowd reacted accordingly.

Not only that, but the match lived up to every expectation set. Trish won, celebrated with the belt and said goodbye to the WWE Universe. Great ending to an amazing career.

Yes, she has returned to the ring a few times since, but nothing can take away from this moment. If there was a better way to go out as a full-time diva, I'd love to hear it.

1. TLC Main Event

5 of 5

What a feud. Edge was officially solidified as a main event player in 2006, and a lot of that can be credited to John Cena.

The back-and-forth matches these two had was simple awesome to watch. Sadly, all good things must come to an end, and Unforgiven was the perfect place to do so.

This time, it would be in Edge's hometown of Toronto, Canada in Edge's type of match. If Cena lost, he would go to Smackdown. Huge stakes.

These two had one amazing encounter that left the crowd speechless with many huge moments. Cena (rightfully) won, but both men looked strong, and each man moved on to other business afterwards (after their steel cage match weeks later).

Once again, a TLC match in WWE came through and delivered big time!
