Titans vs. Saints: Accusations of Whistle Blowing Pose Serious Problem for NOLA

Eric BowmanDec 12, 2011

The New Orleans Saints could be facing punishment if they did indeed blow a whistle on the sidelines while the Tennessee Titans were playing offense late in Sunday's game.

According to Paul Kuharsky of ESPN, offensive linemen Jake Scott and Michael Roos said they believed they heard a whistle blowing while they were on the field of play.

They're accusing the Saints of blowing a whistle during the Titans' second to last drive, and if found guilty, New Orleans will be reprimanded.

Scott said that the producer of "Titans All Access," Dean McCondichie, has the whistle on tape.

It's only an audio version, so it will be tough to prove the Saints were actually doing it. However, in this day and age, nobody is safe anymore. Thousands of people in the stands more than likely have camera phones that either take pictures or shoot video, so there's still a chance the culprit could be caught.

There's also that possibility that some fans were doing it too, it's too tough to know right now.

Roos brought up a valid point that there isn't much the Titans can do right now, but there's cause for concern.

"

Everybody on our side heard something, we're not sure where it came from exactly. But it sounded like from [Saints' bench area], and until we know more, I can't really say anything else. It's not something that should be done but until we can have somebody look at it, we'll have to wait and see.

"

This is obviously something the team can't keep to itself, but choosing not to get extremely worked up about it is the right move by the Titans.

Tennessee lost to New Orleans 22-17, and on the second to last drive, the Titans got all the way to the Saints' 24-yard line, but they failed to convert on 4th-and-1.

If there really was a whistle being blown that drive, it could have been a big distraction for the Titans. It was probably more of an annoyance than anything because Tennessee was putting together a great drive.

For now, we just have to wait to figure out what happened, but if the Saints were really doing it, not only is it wrong, but it's also a weak move by a team that's better than that.
