New Year's Manny Ramirez-Olution

Micheal RobinsonDec 28, 2008

As I sit now, a satisfied Yankees fan after this off-season of signings, I can't help to be greedy and want more.

I don't want to go on a diet as a resolution for the New Year, only to go back to my normal habits before Valentines Day even hits. I just want one thing...

Note to Brian Cashman: Sign Manny Ramirez Now!

I honestly never really liked Manny and his antics, but as ESPN's Stephen A. Smith said, "Don't think for one second that Manny Ramirez doesn't want revenge on the Red Sox."

If they fail to sign Manny, life will go on, but signing him could create a line up of the likes we haven't seen in years.

Can you imagine a lineup with Johnny Damon and Derek Jeter getting it started, followed by Alex Rodriguez, Manny Ramirez and Mark Teixeira. Need I say more?

Fellow Bleacher Report writer Kevin Rozell stated that, "adding Manny Ramirez would create another Murderers Row." I can't disagree with him. It has the capabilities.

The Yankees have spent a lot of money in the past three weeks, adding CC Sabathia, AJ Burnett and reportedly, Mark Teixeira in multi-million dollar deals, but I don't see that slowing down the Yankees spending.

Things need to be addressed in New York, and not winning the World Series since Clinton was in office is a problem. Not only that, Boston has won two Championships during this time and that is ludicrous.

The Yankees are well on their way to bringing another ring back to the Bronx, but why not add another insurance policy in Ramirez.

He can be troublesome at times as it seems he is portrayed by the media, but his number don't lie.

Since coming over to the Dodgers before the trade deadline, Manny posted a .396 batting average, 17 homers, 53 RBI, and .743 slugging percentage in 53 games. Though Jason Bay filled in nicely, I am sure Manny will be missed in Boston.

So much that David Ortiz has been heard saying that he wanted another big bat in their lineup. They had their chance with Mark Teixeira and, well, we all know what happened there.

The fear that a Yankees lineup would instill with all of these hitters—including Ramirez, with a .314 lifetime average—is just jaw dropping.

Time will tell what the Yankees will do, but I just don't see another fit for him besides re-signing with the Dodgers.

I was right about Sabathia, Burnett, and Teixeira and I have a good feeling about this one, too. Let's see what happens.
