NBA Rumors: Gilbert Arenas Looks to Latch onto Dwight Howard's Future
Gilbert Arenas has officially cleared waivers and is now an NBA free agent, but I'm not so sure how hot the market is for him.
Sure, there was a point in time where Arenas—or "Agent Zero"—was one of the hottest players in the league.
As a member of the Washington Wizards, he seemingly had unlimited range and possessed one of the purest strokes in the NBA.
His best scoring year saw him averaging 29.3 points per game and his career average is a healthy 21.2. He was a playmaker and a game changer, and most teams would have jumped at the opportunity to sign him in free agency.
That must have been the pinnacle of his career, though, because he has never been the same since 2005-06.
He suffered a knee injury in 2007-08 that only allowed him to play 13 games, and injury forced him to only play two games in 2008-09
Arenas' low point came during the 2009-10 season, though, when he was sentenced to two years of supervised probation and suspended from the NBA for bringing a gun into the Wizards locker room.
Even though Arenas came back to the Wizards the next year, he was never the same, and they eventually traded him to the Orlando Magic.
He averaged eight points and 3.2 assists in 21.8 minutes with the Magic, but that obviously wasn't enough to keep him around as he was released under the amnesty clause.
The future is very unknown for Arenas. However, according to Marc Stein of ESPN.com, he does have some sort of plan:
"Sources with knowledge of his thinking say that Arenas -- still trying to re-establish himself after the gunplay incident in Washington during the 2009-10 season that resulted in a 30-day stay in a halfway house from April to May of 2010 -- hopes to join Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard wherever Howard is traded.
"
The Magic's center has been rather vocal about wanting to be traded, and somehow Arenas must feel that he's a good fit with Superman.
To be honest, I don't see where he's coming from and I certainly can't wrap my mind around his logic.
At best, he is a decent option coming off the bench, and that may not be worth the risk he presents.
This is Agent Zero we are talking about, though, so that should be kept in mind.
The very same player who felt it was okay to bring a gun into an NBA locker room apparently thinks that he and Dwight Howard should be a tag-team deal.
