Raiders vs. Packers: 6 Things We Learned in Green Bay's 46-16 Win

Matt SteinDec 11, 2011

The Oakland Raiders traveled to Lambeau Field to take on the Green Bay Packers, and they were absolutely embarrassed during a 46-16 victory by the Packers.

It was complete domination from start to finish for Green Bay, and by the second quarter, the Raiders didn't have a chance to pull out the win.

Here are six things we came away with in Green Bay's 46-16 win.

Don't Shut the Door on Ryan Grant

1 of 6

As the season has progressed, more and more people have closed the door on Ryan Grant's career with the Green Bay Packers.

However, thanks to an injury to James Starks, Grant was able to show everyone that he still has what it takes to be an effective running back in this league. He rushed for 85 yards and two touchdowns on Sunday.

His 47-yard scamper in the first quarter was his longest run since 2009. That run showed that Grant still has the vision and speed to be a crucial part to the Packers' offense moving forward.

Even when Starks returns, don't be surprised if Grant starts taking away carries from him heading into the playoffs.

Charles Woodson Is a Legitimate Defensive Player of the Year Candidate

2 of 6

When Charles Woodson won the Defensive Player of the Year Award in 2009, it was one of the finest seasons by a cornerback in recent memory.

Well, Woodson is up to it again this year, as he is having another impressive season. His statistics this year are eerily similar to his 2009 statistics.

As long as Woodson continues to make plays like he has been doing, there is no reason why he shouldn't be considered for DPOY.

Sure, guys like Jared Allen and Patrick Willis may be more popular picks for the award, but Woodson simply can't be left out of the conversation.

Injuries Are Piling Up

3 of 6

While we all know that the Green Bay Packers are capable of overcoming a large amount of injuries, the fact still remains that this team is becoming depleted by injuries.

This week, we saw Greg Jennings come out of the game with an injury, as well as Brandon Saine and Ryan Pickett. When you factor in earlier injuries to starters like Josh Sitton, Desmond Bishop and Chad Clifton, it is slowly becoming a bigger issue for Green Bay.

There are still plenty of capable players left on the roster, but if Green Bay suffers many more injuries, it could become rather detrimental to their Super Bowl run.

Aaron Rodgers' Legs May Be More Valuable Than His Arm

4 of 6

Playing behind an extremely shaky offensive line, Aaron Rodgers is often forced to use his legs more than other quarterbacks in the league.

While he may not be running the ball very often, he is still moving around in the pocket while looking for open receivers. On Sunday, we saw Rodgers forced out of the pocket more than in past weeks.

If he didn't have such a great ability at moving out of trouble, there is no doubt that he would have been sacked more than three times on Sunday.

Should Green Bay continue to struggle at protecting Rodgers, his legs will become more and more important in the upcoming weeks.

Robert Francois and D.J. Smith Have Bright Futures

5 of 6

Had Desmond Bishop never been injured, we might have never seen what D.J. Smith and Robert Francois are capable of.

However, the game against the Oakland Raiders showed against how bright a future both of these players have in the NFL. Each player had an interception against Oakland, and Francois forced a fumble in the third quarter that was returned for a touchdown.

Should Bishop be forced to sit out a few more games, the Green Bay Packers should be in capable hands with Smith and Francois.

This Was the Packers' Most Complete Win

6 of 6

This was the Green Bay Packers' best win of the season.

They jumped out to a 31-0 lead in the first half thanks to an incredible offense and suffocating defense. They caused turnovers, got pressure on Carson Palmer and absolutely dominated for a full sixty minutes.

It would have been easy for this team to slow down after getting a three-touchdown lead, but that wasn't the case. They gave their all for a full game, and it was a beautiful thing to watch.
