UFC 140 Results: 5 Fights for Mark Hominick to Get Back on Track

Jordy McElroyDec 11, 2011

Instead of "I'm Coming Home," Mark Hominick's theme song could've been "I'm Going Home."

The former UFC featherweight title contender was knocked out by Chan Sung-Jung in seven seconds in front of his hometown fans in Toronto, Canada on Saturday night at UFC 140.

It was a rather shocking conclusion to a decently anticipated featherweight scrap.

"I'm going to give it to him," Hominick told UFC commentator Joe Rogan after the fight. "I came out a little too wild. I'm definitely disappointed. I got a little too hyped up. You've seen me fight before, and I don't fight reckless. I came out with a wild left hook. I just really wanted to get it done tonight."

After missing with a left hook, Hominick ate a thunderous right hand from Jung that sent him crashing to the canvas. "The Korean Zombie" immediately followed up with a few unanswered ground shots to get the first-round KO stoppage.

Hominick now finds himself reeling after suffering back-to-back losses. His next outing will be incredibly important as he could be on the UFC chopping block.

Let's look at five potential fights that could help Hominick get back on track.

Javier Vasquez

1 of 5

While he isn't a top-10 opponent, Javier Vasquez is well on his way to crossing that threshold.

At UFC on Versus 4, Vasquez put on a clinic against former lightweight title contender Joe "Daddy" Stevenson.

This would undoubtedly be a dangerous fight for Hominick. Along with being a tough opponent, Vasquez is relatively unknown amongst casual fans.

Ricardo Lamas

2 of 5

With Hominick sliding down the featherweight ladder, Ricardo Lamas is on his way up.

The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt is coming off back-to-back wins over Cub Swanson and Matt Grice.

In a sense, Hominick and Lamas need to fight to smooth out the division. If Hominick wins, he'll continue his march back up the 145-pound ladder.

If Lamas wins, the top-10 featherweight picture could gain a new face.

Josh Grispi

3 of 5

With both fighters coming off consecutive losses, the UFC could put Hominick against Josh Grispi in a loser-leaves-the-UFC bout.

Grispi was initially scheduled to face Jose Aldo for the UFC title in January, but Aldo was forced out of the fight with an injury.

Dustin Poirier replaced the champion and took a lopsided, unanimous decision over Grispi.

A win over Hominick would go a long way in Grispi's return to relevancy.

Rani Yahya

4 of 5

This fight makes sense considering Hominick is looking for a relevant opponent, and Rani Yahya continues to seek out top-10 opposition.

Yahya is incredibly talented, but he has always struggled against upper-echelon opponents.

Could he get over the hump against Hominick?

Tyson Griffin

5 of 5

This is easily the most dangerous fight for Hominick to take.

Griffin has the tools to be a world champion, but a shaky chin and inconsistent performances have cost him in the lightweight and featherweight divisions.

With Griffin's inconsistencies and Hominick's consecutive losses, this would be a do-or-die fight for both fighters.
