UFC 140 Results: 5 Fights for Chan Sung Jung to Take Next
Chan Sung Jung provided fans with one of the quickest knockouts in UFC history at UFC 140 this Saturday.
It took "The Korean Zombie" only 0:07 into the first-round to secure a KO victory over a highly-regarded and top-contender Mark Hominick.
A true testament to Jung's abilities inside the Octagon, especially considering he cut the light off of one of the best kickboxers in the featherweight division, if not the best.
Heading into 2012, Jung's potential at 145 lbs seems uncapped.
Here are five fights that the 24-year-old should consider taking, granted he get the opportunity from Dana White and Joe Silva.
5. Diego Brandao
1 of 5Fighting TUF 14 winner Diego Brandao would mean two things for Chan Sung Jung.
One, he'd be getting the opportunity to knock off one of the most versatile strikers in the division.
The other being the fact that a win over Brandao would supplant Jung as a top-contender, one who has no use for fighting inexperienced UFC talent.
Also considering "The Korean Zombie" likes to stand and bang, evident by his Mark Hominick KO, testing the waters against an unorthodox Brandao would allow Jung to gain that much more respect.
4. Hatsu Hioki
2 of 5Chan Sung Jung may have trouble against Hatsu Hioki's submission attack, but the Korean would be showcasing his ability to get past top fighters that don't necessarily like to keep the fight on their feet.
Jung has recently secured a victory via submission over Leonard Garcia at UFC Fight Night Seattle, so he's more than capable of scrapping on the mat against Hioki.
Both guys are well-rounded, well-experienced and ready to move up the featherweight ranks.
Also considering Hioki is due for another fight in early-2012, and the fact that Jung is coming off a fight that lasted seven seconds, this matchup is more than possible.
3. Bart Palaszewski
3 of 5I think this is a perfect fight for Chan Sung Jung.
One that isn't too high-up on the featherweight ranks, but also a fight that would provide him the opportunity to knock off a legitimate striker and secure the opportunity to fight a top-contender.
Bart Palaszewski is coming off a KO victory of Tyson Griffin at UFC 137, back in October.
He sports some of the best one-punch power in the division and possesses one of the most experienced careers at 145 lbs.
It may not be the rung on the ladder he's looking for, but "The Korean Zombie" is only 24 years old, so he has time to bulk his resume and prepare himself for a run at Jose Aldo.
2. Pablo Garza
4 of 5Pablo Garza is coming off a heartbreaking loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC on FOX, via a second-round submission.
Despite his loss to one of the best prospects in the UFC, "The Scarecrow" should still be considered a top-10 featherweight.
He has strong Muay Thai, serviceable jiu-jitsu and aggressive striking that would bode well against any fighter at 145 lbs.
If Chan Sung Jung gets the chance to fight Garza, it could very well make or break the Korean's title chances for all of 2012.
A loss would knock him back down the ranks, but a win, a convincing one at that, could possibly launch him into top-five consideration.
1. Eric Koch
5 of 5Honestly, this is not a fight Chan Sung Jung should be looking forward to.
Eric Koch is arguably the UFC's hottest prospect, carrying a 13-1 career record at the young age of 23.
Koch has already supplanted himself as a featherweight fighter needing only one or two more wins before getting a chance to take Jose Aldo's championship.
Fighting Jung, or the other way around, would easily secure the winner with an opportunity to fight in a No. 1 contender bout. Whether that's against Dustin Poirier or somebody else has yet to be seen.
Nonetheless, Jung should never overlook an opponent inside the Octagon, especially one that's nicknamed "The New Breed."
