Jones vs. Machida Highlights: Korean Zombie Makes Big Statement with Quick KO
Chan Sung Jung sent a statement to the featherweight division as he tied the UFC record for the fastest knockout in history.
Mark Hominick came out wild with a left hook, and the Korean Zombie countered and countered well. Jung caught him right on the button and left him lying on the mat.
That was out of nowhere, and I believe Hominick got too hyped up which led to him getting knocked out so quickly. Hominick was fighting in front of his home crowd again, and with the loss of his coach Shawn Thompkins, he simply came out too pumped up.
With the knockout, the Korean Zombie puts the featherweight division on notice. Jung came into this fight as a big underdog to Hominick, and he proved that betting odds mean absolutely nothing in the sport of MMA.
While I feel terrible for Hominick, I’m absolutely thrilled for Jung. With the exception of Nick Diaz and Leonard Garcia, there may not be a more exciting fighter than the Korean Zombie.
He’s proved that he can pull off the most unbelievable submissions when he pulled off a twister against Garcia, and tonight, he proved that he can end a fight real fast with his hands.
I hope he continues to climb the ranks, because that simply means more important fights will become more exciting. With the victory, I would like to see Jung get a rematch with George Roop and prove that he just got caught against Roop.
Roop was the first man to ever stop Jung, and I know it’s killing Jung to have that mark on his record. He said in the post-fight interview that just because he was knocked out doesn’t mean he’s not a good striker, and he certainly proved that tonight.
Moving forward, a rematch with Roop makes perfect sense, and I’d like to see the UFC make it happen.
