Robert KnapelDec 10, 2011

According to a report for ESPN's Outside the Lines, NL MVP Ryan Braun has failed a drug test. He is currently appealing the results of the test, but if they are upheld he would be one of the most shocking drug users in MLB history.

The positive test allegedly came from a sample that Braun gave during the 2011 playoffs. Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports has reported that the positive test was for a prohibited substance, not a performance-enhancing drug.

If Braun loses his appeal, he will be suspended for 50 games during the 2012 season.

Rafael Palmeiro went in front of Congress and wagged his finger at them when he told Congress that he never used steroids. It turns out that Palmerio was not telling the truth as a positive steroid test was revealed just a few months later.

Palmeiro claimed that his positive test was the result of a tainted B12 shot, but that did not prove to be the case. A potential Hall of Fame career was tainted by this positive steroid test.

This is by far one of the most shocking PED allegations that has ever been made. Braun was widely regarded to be clean and he was one of the last players many would have suspected of using a PED.

While he may have been known as a quirky character, no one had suspected Manny Ramirez of taking performance-enhancing drugs. It turns out that he did it not only once, but twice.

Ramirez was allegedly tested positive in 2003 when the MLB was first implementing its steroid policy. Then, in 2009, Ramirez had a positive test for a women's fertility drug. He was suspended for 50 games as a result. In 2011 Ramirez tested positive for a banned substance once again and abruptly retired from baseball.
