If Robert Griffin Wins the Heisman, He Needs to Stay in School and Win It Again
Robert Griffin III has had a very interesting season this year as the quarterback for the Baylor Bears. Since he plays for a school that is an afterthought in the Big 12, he went from having very few people talk about him to having everybody know his name and becoming a Heisman finalist this season.
He is the first player in the history of Baylor football to become a Heisman finalist and could also become the first Baylor player to win it.
He's thrown for nearly 4,000 yards and 36 touchdowns while completing 72 percent of his passes. He's also rushed for 644 yards and an extra nine touchdowns. All of his passing numbers are higher than Andrew Luck's, and his six interceptions are three less than the Stanford quarterback.
There was a point in the season where he threw for more touchdowns than incompletions.
At first, Griffin winning the award was a nice story and a fun idea. After the season he just had, it has ow become a reality and could very well happen.
If he does, he needs to return to school and do it all over again.
Baylor hasn't been a successful team at all, and with Robert Griffin they have the chance to possibly reach a BCS bowl. They went from being unranked to finishing this year 9-3, good for third in the Big 12. With Robert Griffin, this team is relevant and has a real chance to turn this Baylor program around.
Robert Griffin also has a chance to make history, as he could become just the second player to ever win the award twice. Archie Griffin is the only person to do so and with Trent Richardson, Kellen Moore and Andrew Luck leaving, he will become the favorite next season.
He will also go from a first-round pick to possibly the No.1 overall pick in next year's NFL draft. With several top quarterback prospects heading into the drat this season, Griffin has a chance to become the top prospect next year.
With another fantastic season next year, it will not only be better for Baylor, but for the Baylor quarterback as well.
