UFC 140 Fight Card: Why Tito Ortiz Should Retire If He Loses

G DDec 8, 2011

Tito Ortiz will enter the Octagon at UFC 140 in arguably the most important fight of his mixed martial arts career.

It's do or die for Ortiz, as many fans across the globe believe this could be the end of the road if the 'Huntington Beach Bad Boy' were to come up short once again.

'Once again' is a reference to Ortiz's recent track record as without his reputable name, it's likely he wouldn't still be fighting in the UFC.

While Ortiz may have been fighting legitimate competition over the past several years, he's still failed in finding a way to overcome adversity.

In fact, Ortiz has won just one fight in his last seven appearances.

Minus a submission victory over Ryan Bader at UFC 132, Ortiz hasn't defeated a light heavyweight contender since Forrest Griffin at UFC 59.

On top of Ortiz's fast track to the bottom of the 205-pound weight division, he's beginning to examine the possibility of calling it quits to a historical career.

Not only has Ortiz examined possible plans but he's discussed a bout with Forrest Griffin as his last career fight inside the Octagon.

But, if Ortiz wants any chance of squaring off with Griffin, he'll have to shift his focus from his retirement to Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.

A loss would certainly be devastating to a career that's already well on it's way to a Chuck Liddell-type ending.

If Tito Ortiz comes up short at UFC 140, he needs to retire.
