RAW GM John Laurinaitis & Why the WWE Should Put Him in a Match with CM Punk
Before going in length about why John Laurinaitis should be given a shot, it should be mentioned why he shouldn't, because there are detractors against him doing it.
He isn't a current wrestler and will be rusty.
He will be taking a spot away from a wrestler on the WWE roster.

He was never a great wrestler to begin with.
He is terrible at promos and couldn't build up a match.
He is not someone who could believably put up a great match with anyone on the roster.
Not only are these all possible points, but they are valid ones.
So why should he be given a match with Punk?
Because the dynamic between the two is the same as Vince McMahon and Stone Cold Steve Austin in the 90s.
CM Punk is the new everyman that fans have gravitated to. He is uncompromising in what he believes and seems to be bigger than the company or those who run it. He seems to define this generation and the attitude that comes with it.
And more than Vince McMahon, so does Laurinaitis. He is also a perfect example of this generation. Where as Punk represents a hard worker in a generation that seems to have been left to do whatever it wants, Laurinaitis represents big business and incompetent, but wealthy businesses.
Laurinaitis is essentially every big company that received a bailout and then spent it lavishly on its own employees. He is someone who the fans believe is incompetent at his job and yet makes a good sum of money and has job security he doesn't deserve.
In the 1990s Austin was the epitome of the attitude held by most. He wanted to tell his boss off and drink beer. McMahon was the corporate conglomerate that wanted things his way.
But in 2011 it wouldn't work. For as much as fans may not like some of McMahon's decisions, he still made the WWE what it is.
They need someone, who like the big businesses, got an easy out without earning it. They need John Laurinaitis.
And they need him to go against the new hero for today. The person who worked their tail off to get where they are and still had to kick down a few doors. They need CM Punk.
It is a match that defines this time and crisis and though it would probably being horrible like many matches that Vince McMahon ended up in, it would still draw. That is because fans would draw to it for the significance it would hold.
It would be what pro wrestling can be at its best. It would be modern day theatre.
With the right match and the right buildup, it could portray the events of these last few years and the hope for something better that might come after it. It could be something memorable that, even if it didn't give fans a five-star match, would give them something just as impacting.
Because as fans, let's be honest. We watch the WWE not just because it has impressive performers or because it seems larger than life, but because of the stories it tells and the potential for them to be bigger than anything else on TV.
And Laurinaitis and Punk could do just that.
The match is there, just waiting to be made and the fans are watching.
Now they just need to deliver.
