2011 Bowl Games: Stanford vs. Oklahoma State and More Great QB Battles
The 2011 bowl season features a number of great matchups, especially when it comes to head-to-head battles with outstanding quarterbacks. Without a legitimate quarterback, there is no way a football team can thrive on the big stage.
There are different types of quarterbacks around the college football world, but as long as they're playing at a high level, their team will succeed.
It's up to the quarterbacks to shine bright in prime time this bowl season, and since some will be up against quarterbacks just as good if not better than them, they'll have to be on their A-game. There's nothing better than watching two phenomenal quarterbacks go back and forth against one another.
College football fans love offense, and they will get plenty of that this bowl season. With that said, here are three games that feature great quarterback battles.
Stanford vs. Oklahoma State
The Fiesta Bowl has two high-powered offenses led by fantastic quarterbacks. Andrew Luck is without a doubt the best QB in the country, but Brandon Weeden isn't far behind him.
Both have put up amazing stats this year, and if their respective teams didn't have them they wouldn't be in a BCS bowl.
Luck should get the better of the two considering he'll be going up against a defense that ranks No. 107 in the country, whereas Weeden has to try and beat the 25th best defense in the nation.
Still though, fans are in for a great show as both QBs excel at what they do.
Arkansas vs. Kansas State
The Cotton Bowl features a dual-threat quarterback up against one with a rocket arm. Collin Klein of the Wildcats has been tough to stop all season long, and the same goes for Tyler Wilson of the Razorbacks.
Klein passed for 1,745 yards with 12 touchdowns, while also running for 1,099 yards with 26 scores. Arkansas' defense hasn't faced anyone like that all year, and it will be interesting to see how it handles Klein.
Wilson isn't much different from some of the QBs Kansas State took on this year, but the good news for him is that the Wildcats had a hard time stopping any of them.
Against Landry Jones, Ryan Tannehill and Weeden, the Wildcats gave up a total of 160 points, meaning Wilson should be in for a great performance.
Virginia Tech vs. Michigan
Fans are upset that these two teams made it into the Sugar Bowl, but they should be glad that it put two flashy quarterbacks against one another.
Logan Thomas of the Hokies is a better passer than Denard Robinson of the Wolverines, but it's the Michigan QB who thrives on the ground.
Of course, the two are great in both areas, which is what makes this game so exciting. Two dual-threat QBs going toe-to-toe in the national spotlight will make for an epic showdown.
With so much time to prepare, each defense will be ready to shut down the opposing quarterback, so it will be interesting to see which one comes out on top.
Both have proven they can win in the clutch, which is why the Sugar Bowl is definitely a watchable game, even if you're not happy these two teams made it.
