WWE Network: Potential Shows for the New WWE Venture
As the WWE's newest venture, the WWE Network, is set to roll out in April of 2012, the new channel will need a great deal of programs to fill the day as the channel will be brand new and will be looking to gain new subscribers in the early months.
With Wrestlemania Rewind and Legend's House among others already on the schedule when the channel debuts in 2012, I have a few suggestions for the WWE to take a look at as the WWE Network draws nearer and nearer to being on our televisions next year.
Inside the Squared Circle
1 of 8You can almost describe this as the WWE's version of SportsCentury that was broadcast on the ESPN family of networks in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
The WWE can take a biographical look at some of the best performers to ever come through the company as they look at all of their accomplishments inside and outside of the ring. In addition, the major moments in the company like the Montreal Screw Job, the debut of the Hell in a Cell and other notable events can be examined.
Bring Back Former Programming
2 of 8I'm old enough to remember when the program Sunday Night Heat was still on the USA Network, giving you a glimpse at the arena setup for that night's PPV, and a match in the hour right before the event started at 8 PM.
While the match on Heat weren't the absolute greatest, the WWE can use that block of time on the network now to get a final push for a lower tier storyline and a few stragglers to order the event in the final moments.
Power 25 Rankings Show
3 of 8As one of the key features on WWE.com, the Power 25 Rankings could be a great show for the network, as it could show clips of what a particular superstar did in the previous week to deserve the ranking.
Additionally,it would incorporate the fascination the company has with social media and have fans vote on the network's website.
Top 10 List Shows
4 of 8Who was the greatest Intercontinental champion in WWE history? What was the greatest main event in the history of Monday Night RAW? Who lasted the longest in a Royal Rumble match and won the January pay-per-view staple?
This show could be a great addition to the network as it seems every other channel on television has at least one of these shows in their programming everyday counting down a top 10 list on a certain topic during the program.
WWE Films
5 of 8While there are some people that wouldn't watch any WWE films unless they were strapped to a chair, the network could show the films that were produced by the company and possibly ones that feature WWE superstars like Roddy Piper's cult classic "They Live."
WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony
6 of 8While this could be combined with the earlier slide about former programming, the WWE can broadcast the ceremony live on the network during the week of Wrestlemania instead of showing it at a later date after the biggest pay-per-view of the year.
Jim Ross Interview Show
7 of 8You can almost say this is the WWE's counterpart to Bob Costas' Studio 42 on the MLB Network. What Costas is to baseball and football, legendary announcer Jim Ross could bring the same feeling to his interview show. There is no one better in the WWE to talk about the business than Good Ol' JR, who has been in the business for more than three decades.
What Would You Like to See on the Network?
8 of 8I gave you a couple of suggestions that I have for the new WWE Network, but what would you like to see on the network?
