Toronto Raptors: Jamaal Magloire To Sign One-Year Deal with the Raptors
According to The Toronto Sun, the Raptors have agreed to a one-year contract with former Miami Heat center Jamaal Magloire.
This is not a blockbuster signing of any kind, but Magloire brings a veteran presence to a young Raptor's squad and will most probably be the back-up center this upcoming season.
Magloire was drafted 19th overall by the (then) Charlotte Hornets in the 2000 NBA Draft. Magloire has never had monster stats, but in the 2003-2004 NBA season, Magloire was given a spot on the Western Conference All-Star team. That was his best season to date, averaging 13.7 PPG and 10.3 RPG.
Magloire has been a pretty consistent player in his career, with a career 48.1 percent field goal percentage, but his minutes, along with his stats, have been going downhill ever since his All-Star appearance.
This is a minor move that gives the Raptors better depth at the center position (Alexis Ajinca and Solomon Alabi are only true centers on depth chart), and if the Raptors cannot find a big man to start for them at center this season, then Bargnani will have to go back to the five, making Magloire his backup.
Although this is not yet an official signing, it is highly likely that the Raptors will make the signing official on Friday, Dec. 9, which is whenever free agents are officially allowed to sign with teams and trades are allowed to be made.
Magloire is a Toronto native, so playing in his own town might be motivation to up his game a little more, and although no one should expect huge numbers from Magloire, his numbers should go up compared to his last three seasons.
