Those are the facts as they stand today. They are irrefutable.
This is the official statement from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, given to Mike Florio and the guys at ProFootballTalk.com:
That came from the Buccaneers Director of Communications, Jonathan Grella.
Now comes the fun part. I will give you my take. During my 10 years at the Tampa Tribune, I'd sometimes spend some off nights with our police reporter, the great Ivan Hathaway. Learned a lot about the crime beat, police reports, etc. etc.
During my 39 years in Tampa, I have known many great attorneys.
I was even involved as a witness to a "shakedown" for money. Some folks were trying to sue Outback Steakhouse after an incident I witnessed. They kept hoping I would go away, but when it became apparent that myself and my friend who also witnessed this "incident" were in Tampa to stay and totally refuted the claim of the plaintiffs, well, the plaintiffs and their lawyers eventually went away.
But I digress.
Back to Blount.
Experience tells me that when someone is "victimized," as Mr. Holmer claims he was, yet fails to file charges, well, something isn't right.
The police report of this incident is more than 20 pages long. There are many, many details that haven't been written.
Now we have Mr. Holmer looking for money.
Hmmmmmmmmmm.
I was disappointed but not surprised with some of the comments in other stories on the site regarding this "incident."
Any story without the full facts of the lengthy police report is incomplete. In my story, all I did was write the news that Blount was "mentioned" in the police report, and indeed he was. That is a fact.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have extensive resources (that means a lot of money) at their disposal to conduct any sort of internal investigation they wish. And that is what they did in this case.
They also have extensive community contacts (that means they know a lot of policemen), and they did their homework with them as well.
As we indicated, and it is FACT—this case is closed.
And we will leave it at that. We shall let the lawyers pound on each other. There will be a lot of depositions, etc., etc.
Mr. Gary Holmer did not file any charges against LeGarrette Blount.
That is an irrefutable fact.
Mr. Gary Holmer is looking for money from LeGarrette Blount.
And that, too, is an irrefutable fact.
