Jon Jones vs. Anderson Silva and 5 Super Fights That Will Never Happen

G DDec 6, 2011

The Ultimate Fighting Championship has been recognized as an organization that provides its fans with immeasurable entertainment since hitting the map 18 years ago.

And, as the UFC continues to move closer to the mainstream, fan expectations begin to shoot through the roof.

As time has progressed, fans across the globe have begun to demand more as they desire to see the best fights possible—even if that means a "super fight."

However, despite fans' wants and needs, it's likely their desire to see these fights will never come to be.

Either because of the complexity or the unrealistic possibility, fans won't get to see their highly talked about "super fights."

So, the following slides display five super fights that will never happen.

Let's take a look.

Jose Aldo vs. Dominick Cruz

1 of 5

After dominating their respected divisions, both Jose Aldo and Dominick Cruz were thrown into the discussion of a potential super fight.

However, both the 135-pound and 145-pound divisions are quickly increasing in number after the Ultimate Fighter Season 14 has just come to a close.

In addition, it's likely both champions will have their hands full in their next bouts as Aldo will be taking on Chad Mendes and Cruz will square off with Urijah Faber.

Anderson Silva vs. George St-Pierre

2 of 5

Since Anderson Silva and George St-Pierre have been established as two of the best fighters in the UFC today, fans have rambled on of the possibility of seeing the two square off in a super fight.

It's yet to happen, however, as the only thing that's been set in stone are the conditions for this fight to happen.

As the welterweight division continues to develop contenders, it's unlikely St-Pierre would consider moving a weight class.

And, if he did, it would be to the lightweight division.

The same could be said for Silva, as a transition would only be to the 205-pound weight class.

Frankie Edgar vs. Jose Aldo

3 of 5

UFC fans across the globe have discussed the possibility of seeing Frankie Edgar drop to the featherweight division as he is a smaller 155-pound fighter.

However, the likelihood of that has quickly diminished as Edgar continues to reign supreme in his respected weight class.

Edgar will also have arguably his toughest opponent to date against the up-and-coming Ben Henderson at UFC 144.

Edgar vs. Aldo is a no-go.

Anderson Silva vs. Heavyweight Division

4 of 5

If Anderson Silva isn't making the transition to the light heavyweight division, the chances of him ever fighting a heavyweight opponent are zero percent.

Even if "The Spider" were to fight a 205-pound opponent, it's likely he'll have a full plate with the stacked division on hand.

Silva will never fight a heavyweight opponent during his mixed martial arts career.

Jon Jones vs. Anderson Silva

5 of 5

While many fans believe Jon Jones vs. Anderson Silva could possibly happen in the near future, they're sadly mistaken.

It's unlikely Silva will make the move to the light heavyweight division as the 185-pound weight class is beginning to develop more and more contenders in Chael Sonnen, Michael Bisping, and Mark Munoz.

In addition, for Silva to jump a weight class, he will have to let go of his highly treasured middleweight title.

Jones vs. Silva isn't happening.
