UFC 140: 4 Fights Tito Ortiz Should Consider Before He Retires

Tim McTiernanDec 6, 2011

Tito Ortiz has recently come out and said that he likely only has two fights left in his career, counting his upcoming fight with Antonio Rogerio Nogueira this weekend at UFC 140.

Ortiz has been around since his MMA debut took place at UFC 13, and in his illustrious 26-fight career, 25 of his fights have come inside the Octagon.

In that time, Ortiz became—as far as title defenses—the most dominant light heavyweight champion in UFC history.

Ortiz has squared off with some of the top fighters in the sport, including Frank Shamrock, Wanderlei Silva, Ken Shamrock, Randy Couture, Chuck Liddell and many more.

If Ortiz truly does only have one more fight left after Saturday, let's take a look at four fights for him to consider.

Forrest Griffin

Tito Ortiz recently said that he would want his last fight to be against Forrest Griffin.

"

"I think me and Forrest Griffin, we got some unfinished business, just because they gave him the last fight and I thought that was BS, that really annoys me a lot about it. But, of course, Rich Franklin calls me out, it's like take a number dude. Stand in line with the rest of the people that've been calling me out. Everybody wants to get famous by fighting Tito Ortiz and I think the people who really deserve it are people who already fought me or are fighting for a title."

"

These two first met at UFC 59, where Ortiz earned a split decision over Griffin.

Then they met again at UFC 106, where it was Griffin on the winning end of a split decision.

A third match between these two would be a good send-off for Ortiz.

Rich Franklin

In the quote on the previous slide, you see Ortiz mention that he was called out by Rich Franklin.

Well, Ortiz responded, saying, "100 percent yes. I would love to. I've taken fights. Put him in front of me and I'll fight... Rich Franklin, if you want to get broken off some. I'll break you off some."

This match has been speculated on in the past, as both of these two were dominant fighters in each of their weight classes.

This would make another solid send-off for Ortiz.

Dana White

3 of 4

Honestly, tell me you wouldn't watch it.

These two were going to have a boxing match back in 2007, but it was cancelled when Ortiz didn't show up for the weigh ins.

Yeah, it was that close to happening.

Chuck Liddell

Okay, so the first two matchups are much more likely than these last two, but who wouldn't want to watch Liddell-Ortiz III for old times sake?

Unfortunately, the prospects of this one are slim, as Liddell is retired—at Dana White's request—and he's also beaten Ortiz twice, in brutal fashion.

Not sure Ortiz would want to risk retiring on such a sour note.

Whoever is his last opponent, Ortiz sure has had one hell of a career.
