NBA Rumors: Separating Fact from Fiction in the NBA's Rumor Mill
The NBA rumor mill is spinning as fast as an overzealous guy on The Price is Right’s wheel right now, and it’s time to start figuring out what rumors are for real and which ones will never come to fruition.
Dwight Howard Has Not Requested a Trade
He recently received a drunk dial from the now former Magic CEO Bob Vander Weide, according to CBS Sports’ Ken Berger, but he has yet to formally tell GM Otis Smith he wants out.
The Magic are tossing names like Deron Williams, Chris Paul and Monta Elis around in a desperate attempt to keep their all-star center. They think there is still a chance he stays if another superstar comes to town. Regardless of if the Magic can pull off this small miracle, he is going to play at least 50 percent of the season with Mickey Mouse and the crew in Orlando.
Chris Paul for Rajon Rondo Will Not Happen
Rondo has too much skill, too much chemistry with the rest of the team and is too important to the success of Boston’s final run to give it up on an older player that has a history of knee issues.
Rondo’s agent has already been told by the Celtics that his client will be in Beantown for the new season.
Nene Will Not Be Back With The Denver Nuggets
He clearly wants the most money he can possibly get, and the Nuggets aren’t willing to shell out upwards of $100 million on a player that doesn’t show up in the postseason.
The Indiana Pacers are visiting him on Tuesday, with strong interest from the Houston Rockets, Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat and New Jersey Nets surrounding Nene as well.
It’s clear that the Nuggets are ready to move on and let another team saddle their payroll with an overrated big man that has a history of no-shows in the playoffs.
The New York Knicks Will Not Trade For Chris Paul
The Knicks have two mega-contracts with Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire already on the books and Chauncey Billups making $11 million for the upcoming season.
If the Knicks were going to make the move, they would have to sell the Hornets on guys like Bill Walker, Jared Jefferies and Toney Douglas in addition to taking on Billups and his large contract.
New York has seven months to figure out how they can budget CP3 in free agency because they simply don’t have the assets to land him beforehand. The Hornets know how much the Nuggets got for ‘Melo and aren’t going to give the Knicks some sort of discount.
The Knick fans have been waiting for a Big Three for the last half decade; looks like they have to wait another season.
