The 10 Most One-Sided Beatdowns in 2011
Every year, it happens plenty of times.
A fighter gets absolutely demolished and suffers a terrible one-sided beatdown.
This year, there have been many such fights, from UFC 125 on the first day of the year all the way through to The Ultimate Fighter 14 Finale this past Saturday.
We've seen fan favorites fall, legends fall, and some guys on the undercard just find themselves overmatched.
It's sometimes painful to watch, but let's take a look back at the 10 most one-sided beatdowns thus far in 2011.
Honorable Mention: Every Ronda Rousey Fight
1 of 12Ronda Rousey has had five fights this year inside the cage.
She has been in the cage for a combined 2:32.
I believe that speaks for itself.
10. Danny Downes vs. Ramsey Nijem at UFC 137
2 of 12At UFC 137, Danny Downes faced off against The Ultimate Fighter 13 finalist, Ramsey Nijem.
On one judge's scorecards, he earned a 30-27, on another, a 30-26, and on the third, a 30-25.
Two 10-8 rounds? I believe that speaks for itself as well.
9. Brian Stann vs. Chris Leben at UFC 125
3 of 12In the first UFC event of the year, Brian Stann faced off against Chris "The Crippler" Leben.
Look at Leben in that photo. When was the last time that you ever saw him curled up in a ball?
Stann was able to drop Leben three times in a matter of 3:37.
Finally, after the third time—and some more ground and pound—Josh Rosenthal stepped in and saved Leben from more punishment.
More to come from this event later on.
8. Jon Jones vs. Rampage Jackson at UFC 135
4 of 12At UFC 135, Jon Jones was set to make the first defense of his light heavyweight title against Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.
In typical Jon Jones fashion, he dominated the fight, and was never in any danger of losing the fight at all.
With one of his brutal elbows, he was able to cut open Rampage, which set up the fight-ending rear-naked choke in the fourth round.
More to come from Jones later on.
7. Anderson Silva vs. Yushin Okami at UFC 134
5 of 12At UFC 134, Anderson Silva squared off against one of four men to hold a victory over him, Yushin "Thunder" Okami.
Okami had no answer for Silva's pinpoint striking, and was dropped by a trademark Silva jab.
In the second round, the first time that jab dropped him, Silva showed little interest in finishing the fight.
The second time, Silva went in for the finish and got it rather easily.
6. Jon Jones vs. Shogun Rua at UFC 128
6 of 12At UFC 128, Shogun Rua looked to make the first defense of his light heavyweight title against a young phenom, Jon Jones.
In a fight that shocked many fans, Jones absolutely dominated Shogun en route to a third-round TKO victory.
It was so bad, that as Herb Dean was stepping in for the TKO stoppage, Shogun could be seen tapping to strikes.
Shogun has an iron will, and the fact that he would even consider tapping shows the brutal beatdown that Jones put on him.
5. Diego Brandao vs. Bryan Caraway on The Ultimate Fighter 14
7 of 12It may have not been an official UFC fight, but this was one of the most brutal fights I have ever seen.
On the most recent season of The Ultimate Fighter, eventual featherweight winner Diego Brandao took on Bryan Caraway in the semifinals, and laid an unbelievable beating on him.
Brandao rocked Caraway badly, and for almost two minutes, Brandao tried to finish Caraway, throwing head kicks, flying knees, and punches galore, until finally, Caraway fell to guard, and Brandao landed one shot to put him away.
He even came out afterwards and said that he didn't want his opponents to get the wrong idea. Nobody lasts that long when he hits them.
This fight can be seen through the UFC with a quick Google search.
4. Michael Bisping vs. Jason Miller at The Ultimate Fighter 14 Finale
8 of 12This past Saturday, Jason "Mayhem" Miller suffered a beating at the hands of Michael "The Count" Bisping.
These two had coached against each other on the most recent season of The Ultimate Fighter, and all the trash talk culminated in this fight.
In the first round, Mayhem was able to take Bisping down and hold him in a seated mount position, but he landed little damage.
The second and third rounds were a different story, as Bisping demolished Mayhem, and finally ended the fight with a TKO due to knees to the body.
3. Thiago Silva vs. Brandon Vera at UFC 125
9 of 12Remember that nose? That's the nose of a man who just got demolished by Thiago Silva at UFC 125.
Yes, it was later revealed that Silva was on steroids, and the fight has since been overturned to a no contest, but that doesn't mean it wasn't an absolute beatdown.
In the third round, Silva had the back of Vera, but was unable to sink in a rear-naked choke, so Silva spent the time simply teeing off with strikes, including open-palm strikes.
It was almost difficult to watch.
2. Fedor Emelianenko vs. Bigfoot Silva at Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Silva
10 of 12Back in February, Fedor took on Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva, in his first fight after losing to Fabricio Werdum.
Many expected Fedor to come back in resounding fashion, as he would then advance to a fight with either Alistair Overeem, or a rematch with Fabricio Werdum.
However, the fight consisted of Bigfoot Silva on top of Fedor, pounding on him with hammerfists and punches.
When Fedor got up after the second round, he looked like he did in the picture.
The doctors decided he'd had enough, and called the fight between the second and third rounds.
1. Nick Diaz vs. B.J. Penn at UFC 137
11 of 12When was the last time that you ever saw B.J. Penn look like that after a fight?
Never? Exactly.
For 15 minutes, Nick Diaz used his unorthodox boxing to outstrike Penn, and simply batter him for the entire fight.
At the end of the third round, it was no secret who had won, as Diaz had even earned a 10-8 round.
After the fight, Penn announced his retirement, and after such a brutal beatdown, who could blame him?
Was There Another Beatdown I Missed?
12 of 12There are literally thousands of MMA fights every year, and it would be possible to go through them all and find the worst beatdowns.
So did I leave one out?
Let me know in the comments.
In the meantime, enjoy the Marvin Eastman cut, Nick.
