The Rock: Does He Need Another Run at the WWE Heavyweight Championship?
The Rock is the most electrifying superstar of all time—bar none. He is at a level that few legends have achieved in the business.
He has crossed over into the mainstream, thanks to a successful film career. He is an icon, a future Hall of Famer and perhaps the greatest wrestler of all time. Since he has done it all in professional wrestling, quite frankly he has nothing left to prove.
Nothing!

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
I'm sure many of you feel the same way. However, The Rock might feel differently. It's taken hard work, the willingness to adapt and reinvent himself, sacrifice, perseverance—and a lot of other intangibles I haven't named—to get to where he is today.
Add to that the burden of having to live up to certain expectations because of the legacies of his father and grandfather and you can understand why he has been so successful.
Still a young man, The Rock may feel that there are still more stories to tell and matches that will enhance his career.
The Rock still has it. He is in great physical shape and can pick up where he left off eight years ago. There are new challenges on the horizon that The Rock may want to test himself against (besides John Cena). The Miz, CM Punk, Randy Orton and Alberto Del Rio are superstars worthy of challenging Rock; they would be elevated to the next level just by being in a program with him.
He never did get the proper send-off a star of his magnitude deserves—because he never really retired. The Rock is at a point where he can call the shots and end his career the way he wants.
Does that mean having another run as WWE Heavyweight champion?
The Rock does not need another title. He is a nine-time world heavyweight champion—quite an accomplishment. At this point in his career, another title wouldn't do anything for him. I think being champion would be more of a burden than anything else, considering he still wants to pursue a film career.
Being champion takes a commitment by someone who will be with the company for the long term and is willing to sacrifice everything. When you are struggling to make a name for yourself, that's one thing. You do everything you can to keep your momentum going.
The Rock is no longer in a place where he needs to be the company man; he's beyond that. Clearly, he wants to have his cake and eat it too by putting his outside interests first.
We're months away from WrestleMania and we still haven't scratched the surface of his feud with John Cena and the possibilities that could come from it. He hasn't been around enough.
The WWE may feel differently. Letting The Rock have the title wouldn't do anything for him, but would produce great television and a compelling storyline for WWE.
Having The Rock involved in the title picture, period—whether as champion or challenger—would generate interest that the product hasn't seen in years. Viewership and ratings would jump significantly. So would merchandise sales. The title would regain a lot of the prestige that it has lost over the years.
While any of the current main event stars on the roster could be positioned to carry the company for the long term, there seems to be hesitation on the company's part to invest in anyone whose last name is not Cena. That could change if The Rock is part of the equation.
The Rock has a proven track record. Putting the title on him going into a spectacular like WrestleMania or SummerSlam would go a long way and make financial sense. Having him pursue the title going into those events would be just as exciting and lucrative.
Whoever The Rock faced in a title match would see their stock soar, big time. Everyone wins—except maybe The Rock. He may not want to put just anyone over at his expense unless it makes sense.
Again, The Rock would also have to be willing to make more of a commitment than he already has in order for this to happen. That seems unlikely.
The Rock doesn't need another run at the title, but we certainly wouldn't mind. It would be OK with The WWE too.
