Why Is Hornswoggle Still Employed by the WWE?
Why is Hornswoggle still around the world of pro wrestling when he seems to bring nothing in the ring?
It's a question that has agitated fans—especially those that reside on the Internet—to no end.
After all, he just garbles pointless noises and sometimes wrestles in matches that are painful to watch. He doesn't even have a well-developed character. So why does he get to stay?

Some answers are easy.
Firing him would probably cause the WWE some discomfort since he is obviously not able to compete as a wrestler. It may seem silly, but in a politically correct world, and with the WWE now a publicly-traded stock, that theory has some weight behind it.
Another more obvious answer is that he is huge with the kids and that they love his character. As much as Internet fans might hate to admit it, at one time we were all kids who wanted to see a funny slapstick character and watch the good guy beat the bad guy and save the day. We weren't looking for subtext or story development.
We just wanted to watch live-action comic books performed by stuntmen.
It's easy to see why Hornswoggle still has a job in the WWE.
The better question to ask then isn't why is he with the WWE, but why do some fans seem to hate him so?
It's true that he can't compete and that his character lacks depth, but taking a step back, we can look at the performer.
Here is someone who has been put in multiple humiliating scenarios, he was once dressed as a soiled leprechaun, and still has remained with the company. He also seems to have no problem running around and making a fool of himself still.
Some may see an annoying character, but there is something else there as well.
A company man. Someone who is willing to take bumps for the good of the business and doesn't mind being hated, much like John Cena, by some fans so long as he can help out the company.
He is even willing to be on shows like Z True Long Island Story made by Zack Ryder, which is completely outside of the WWE. And he has been on it multiple times.
That is someone who enjoys their job and is willing to help others out.
Truth be told, most of the fans that do hate him probably have nothing against him, but rather the fact that he won the now defunct cruiserweight championship. Hornswoggle was the last champion to ever hold the belt, and after it was retired, many fans might have been angry that he was able to be the last one to hold it.
Others might even think that he was the reason it was retired.
Considering that he is just an employee who acts out the storylines given to him by the company, it seems unlikely. Yet anger is irrational like most emotions, and when fans—who intensely feel those emotions for the sport they love—direct it towards a character, it is hard to stop.
But if fans—who held animosity towards him—gave Hornswoggle another look, they just might just see someone who deserves to be in the WWE.
