BCS Rankings: Texas Longhorns Will Be on the Outside of Final Standings
With Saturday's loss to the Baylor Bears, the No. 22 Texas Longhorns will find themselves outside of the final BCS standings. That potentially could put head coach Mack Brown's career on the line.
The Longhorns are 7-5 this season, which is inexcusable for any ranked team. The Longhorns did have a tough schedule, but with no wins over ranked teams there is no chance that they will find themselves inside the Top 25.
While recouping from a 5-7 2010 season, the Longhorns were not able to capitalize this season and that ultimately has put them in a bad position. They did have tough games with Oklahoma and Oklahoma State back-to-back. They could not win those games, and that saw the downfall of their season following a 4-0 start.
In the following weeks, the Longhorns dropped games to the Missouri Tigers, the Kansas State Wildcats and most recently to Baylor. These losses were games that the Longhorns could have won, but in the end they have proven that 2011 will not be their year.
Texas will still be playing in a bowl this season, since they do have a winning record. That game looks to be the Bridgepoint Education Bowl, where they will likely be taking on the California Golden Bears. The Longhorns should be able to handle the Bears, but after everything that has happened this season there is no guarantee.
If they can win their bowl game, they could redeem some of what they have managed to lose this season.
If the Longhorns do manage to drop their bowl game, many will be wondering what the future will hold for coach Brown in Texas.
