BCS Rankings: Selection Show Will Be First Disappointment of Ugly Bowl Season
The USA Today Coaches Poll and Associated Press Poll didn't move Oklahoma State to No. 2. Instead, the idle Alabama Crimson Tide barely held on, setting up what will likely be the first disappointment of a long bowl season.
Don't get me wrong, an LSU vs. Alabama rematch for the BCS Championship will pit the two best teams in the country against one another, but the Pokes certainly made a great case for themselves (this week at least).
But let's be honest, Oklahoma State blew it when they lost to Iowa State.
It doesn't matter that they won arguably the most competitive conference title in the country this season.
It doesn't matter that they played a more difficult schedule than Alabama.
And it doesn't matter that they're the best option outside of the SEC.
They lost to an inferior opponent in a game that should never have been close, while Alabama left at least 12 points on the field in their overtime loss to LSU.
The stats continue to show the Pokes closing on Alabama, but tonight on the Allstate Selection show we'll likely be resigned to having a rematch decide the national title.
And that is not all.
Here is what else we can expect and look forward to:
An ugly Michigan team in a BCS game, likely against Boise State (or TCU) in the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
Battle of the undeserving between West Virginia and Clemson in the Discover Orange Bowl.
Oregon and Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl presented by Vizio.
And Oklahoma State and Stanford in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.
The BCS National Championship Game won't be disappointing. It won't be as low-scoring as the previous affair, and when all is said and done we will be able to say the two best teams played in the season's most important game.
It won't be pretty though; none of these games will be.
It all starts tonight with the decision that will likely disappoint a lot of fans.
