WWE TLC 2011: Why Blood Is Necessary in Professional Wrestling
The WWE has been mired in the PG era for too long. It’s time to get wild and raise that television rating to TV-13.
That means blood.
While the PG era has brought a new culture to wrestling, the element of blood is as old as the sport itself. From day one, bleeding enhanced the feel that the participants were really trying to hurt each other.

That’s what a wrestler does. They are out there to put on a show for the people and convince them that they have everything invested in the bout. The addition of blood shows the fans that the brawl has turned ugly and the participants really were hurting each other.
WWE has gone out of their way to not have blood in their shows to any serious extent, even editing SmackDown’s footage to take blood out at times.
It’s time to bring it back.
This is something that you can’t do very often, but there are times when blood in a match would turn it from a great match to an epic battle.
The perfect example of this in recent times is what TNA has done. While the company has toned back the blood count, they still use it when it’s appropriate.
Blood was a huge element in the Hulk Hogan vs. Sting match at Bound for Glory this year, which turned that fight into a stellar story match.
Hogan has become the face of blood over the years and as he will attest, it’s all about making the fan believe they are watching a real fight. Some fans hate the hardcore element, but they are missing the point of why it is used.
This TLC pay-per-view would be the perfect to bring blood back. It wouldn’t be every match, but imagine Alberto Del Rio busting CM Punk open and having Punk win the belt covered in blood.
We might actually care about that feud still.
