BCS Rankings: 4 Reasons Alabama Should Still Stay Ahead of Oklahoma State

Jim SullivanDec 4, 2011

With Oklahoma State's huge win over Oklahoma yesterday, the Crimson Tide fans have to be shaking in their boots. A 44-10 win is not only solid—it is resounding, and the Cowboys all of a sudden have more than a shot to make a bid for what 'Bama thought was all but theirs.

The Crimson Tide should be a little more confident in their team, though. They have more than enough reasons to say they belong in the title game against their intra-division rival.

We take a look at five reasons the Tide are certain to out-gun the Big 12 champions for what is turning out to be one of the most hard-fought title bids ever.

SEC over Big 12

1 of 4

Let's put it this way: If you had a choice of who you would rather play to prove you're the best, would you want them to be from the second or third-best football conference, or the undeniably top conference in the nation?

It's a pretty simple decision, and we all know what the right one is.

A Rematch Would Bring Strong Viewership

2 of 4

The "Game of the Century" was decided in overtime by just three points. The Crimson Tide also held the No. 1-ranked Tigers to no touchdowns and under 10 points with ease.

A rematch would get huge attention on a national scale. It might be good and bad, but it would still get attention, and millions of people would sit down to watch Round 2 of this SEC rivalry.

LSU Owns ISU

3 of 4

Each squad bidding for that No. 2 spot is 11-1. Each of those losses was tough and hard to swallow, but for OSU, theirs came to a 6-6 unranked Iowa State team while Alabama fell to undefeated No. 1 LSU.

To put it simply, Alabama's loss is a lot "better" than Oklahoma State's. This is most certainly one of the Tide's strongest arguments to stay at No. 2 and will play a major role in how voters cast their final ballot.

OSU No Match for LSU

4 of 4

The LSU defense is nationally acclaimed for their dirty play, strength, speed and overall toughness.

Oklahoma State is known for scoring a lot of points and not playing a lot of defense.

Do fans really want to see another SEC vs. fill-in the high-scoring conference champion here? We all know how it's going to end, and we all know it won't be as pretty as it was last year. Alabama has proven they can not only stick with LSU but that they can beat them if they can put together a decent offensive attack.

Giving the Tide the chance to redeem themselves is exactly what the country wants, but doesn't know yet.

Hopefully the voters already know.
