Wisconsin vs. Michigan State Video: Watch Gus Johnson Go Mental on TD Drive
Anytime Gus Johnson is doing a game, regardless of the sport, you should expect anything and everything to happen.
Wisconsin Badgers’ quarterback Russell Wilson was sitting at fourth and six with a little more than four minutes remaining in the Big Ten Championship against Michigan State before he heaved a prayer 36 yards to Jeff Duckworth. The Badgers went on to score on the drive, and are now heading to the Rose Bowl.
But seriously, when Wilson rolled out of the pocket, didn’t you just know that he was going to complete the pass because Johnson was doing play-by-play? You just knew it.
Johnson is the best play-by-play guy in all of sports. On Friday night he turned a three touchdown Oregon trouncing of UCLA seem like it was a one touchdown game. UCLA went on to get the game closer than that, but it was somehow watchable. Johnson is amazing.
It’s almost like when you were a kid and you decided to commentate when you are playing basketball or football by yourself just to pass the time. You would go nuts after hitting a game-winning shot or scored the game-winning touchdown (Hopefully I wasn’t the only one that did that…).
Johnson can turn any game into a watchable one, but Wisconsin vs. Michigan State didn’t need a great announcer because it was that good.
It was a back-and-forth type of game that saw plenty of unbelievable plays like laterals when there probably shouldn’t be, great all-around football and two teams that gave it their all.
Wisconsin vs. Michigan State was by far the best game on the slate during Championship Saturday and Johnson’s historic voice made it that much better.
The worst part of the game came towards the end, unfortunately. Michigan State was prepared to get the ball back after Wisconsin failed to get a first down. Instead, the Spartans made a crucial error by running into the kicker.
Wisconsin went on to take a knee and it was suddenly over. It was like one of the best movies of all time, but the ending was awful. It didn’t ruin the movie, but you feel like it didn’t do it justice.
Regardless of the ending, Wisconsin vs. Michigan State was just another epic game that Johnson called. If only he could call every game.
