Heisman Candidates: History Shows Trent Richardson Will Win Heisman Trophy
Trent Richardson will win the Heisman Trophy. A very predictable history, as it relates to the BCS, says so.
Richardson does deserve the award, so there is no controversy here. He is the best player on one of the two best teams in the country.
LSU, the clear No. 1 team, has no Heisman candidate. Richardson is the main cog of an Alabama attack that features the run most.
In the last 10 years, only one player has won the Heisman who's team did not play in the BCS title game. That player was Tim Tebow, and we all know about the former Gator' monumental popularity.
It would take a player with a presence like that to go against history.
As ballyhooed as Andrew Luck is and as spectacular as Robert Griffin III is, neither of them is large enough to create the second exception to the unwritten rule.
Richardson catches an even bigger break by being idle on the last Saturday before the bowl games start. He is sitting in the cat-bird seat, and he doesn't have a chance to have a misstep.
Richardson will likely accept the trophy in New York, just as his former teammate Mark Ingram did two years go.
From there, Richardson will lead his team into a rematch with LSU in the BCS title game. Win or lose, Richardson will likely march into the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft.
