Chelsea vs. Valencia: Complete Preview, Live Stream, Start Time and Schedule

Nicholas GossDec 3, 2011

Chelsea must defeat or keep a clean sheet against Valencia on Tuesday or the Premier League club will not qualify for the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League and fail their No. 1 goal of the season.

If that happens, manager Andre Villas-Boas will likely be sacked and the club will have to ponder some major changes going forward.

The two teams both have eight points in second place in Group E, one behind German side Bayern Leverkusen.

The Blues are under all the pressure in this match. With the transfer losses of David Silva, David Villa and Juan Mata in recent seasons, Valencia has impressively still maintained their pedigree of being a top Spanish team.

They are the underdogs at Stamford Bridge and should take advantage of the nervous energy bound to fill the stadium on Tuesday.

Let's look at everything you need to know about this awesome Champions League match.

Where: Stamford Bridge, London, England

Watch: Fox Soccer, Sky Sports HD2

Live Stream: foxsoccer.tv

When: Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 2:45 p.m. EST

Player to watch for Chelsea: Juan Mata

Juan Mata is Chelsea's best player right now and his great runs toward goal create quality scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates.

Mata is an excellent passer and a fantastic dribbler. When he's on his game, the Blues are quite exciting to watch.

Mata must lead the Chelsea charge on Tuesday against his former team.

Player to watch for Valencia: Roberto Soldado

Roberto Soldado leads Valencia with five goals in Champions League play, and has been an attacking force throughout all competitions this season.

Chelsea must stop the 26-year-old midfielder from creating offense for himself and his teammates. Soldado and Jonas have eight of the club's 12 Champions League goals this season and must be stopped for the Blues to be successful on Tuesday.

Key Matchup: Valencia forwards vs. David Luiz

David Luiz has been terrible this season at centre-back for Chelsea, and has not played well with club captain John Terry by his side.

The young Brazilian takes too many chances and makes too many mistakes at the back that put Chelsea in bad situations.

Luiz must be composed on Tuesday and not make the Blues defend more than they have to.

What They're Saying

Villas-Boas spoke about Chelsea's problems getting victories at Stamford Bridge this season in a recent Daily Mail article:

"

'I'm not saying Stamford Bridge is a problem,' he said. 'There's a problem with results at Stamford Bridge, but there's not a problem with Stamford Bridge.'

He added: 'We have had good performances away from home. In terms of focus concentration, we have been also doing well away from home and there is more tension in those games as you play them away, (there is) less relaxation."

"

Prediction: Chelsea 2-1

There are plenty of reasons to pick against Chelsea in this important match, but I cannot see them losing this game at Stamford Bridge against an inferior, but talented opponent.Valencia has some good attacking players, but I expect David Luiz to play better than he has in recent weeks.

Chelsea's big-game players like Frank Lampard, John Terry and Didier Drogba won't be fazed by the stage and pressure of the game, and will lead the Blues to a massive win and qualification into the knockout stages.
