Over the past several years, the sport of mixed martial arts has rapidly become one of the most popular sports on the face of the earth. Fans and viewers of all ages have become drawn to the sport because of the real-life entertainment the fighters provide.

However, the entertainment doesn't solely come from inside the ring of the Octagon as many fans may think. Some of the greatest excitement comes even before action begins as fighters have engaged in some of the most vicious stare downs known to mankind.

Stare downs have been present in the sport of mixed martial arts since the very beginning of the sport's establishment.

So, the following slides display the 10 greatest stare downs in MMA history.

10. UFC 126: Anderson Silva vs. Vitor Belfort

Prior to one of the greatest head kicks in UFC history at UFC 126, Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort met for a vicious stare down.

Without emotion, the two Brazilians stared into each other's eyes for quite some time as Silva hid his identity.
