5 Reasons "Cyborg" Will Dominate the Strikeforce Women's 135-Pound Division

The Last RoninDec 6, 2011

Recently Strikeforce announced that they will be dropping the women's 145-pound division because there just aren't enough fighters who are willing to step into the cage with the No. 1 pound-for-pound female fighter Cris "Cyborg" Santos.

Shortly after this news Cyborg announced that she will make the cut down to 135 and continue to prove to the world that she is the best female fighter of all time.

This news had to be a bit disturbing for the ladies in the 135 division, as many of them had dropped down to this division from 145. Cyborg, will have to cut a significant amount of weight for her new weight class, but if anyone can do it, she can.

When that cage door closes fans are going to continue to see Cyborg reign supreme in women's MMA.  Opponents beware, you cant run from the champ any more.

Here are the top five reasons that Cris "Cyborg" Santos is going to dominate the 135-pound division.

Cyborg Is Much More Aggressive Than Any Other Female

1 of 5

From the moment the cage door closes and the bell rings Cyborg constantly stalks her opponent looking for the kill.

She pushes forward throwing kicks and punches, and when she gets in close enough she tosses her opponent to the ground all the wile sticking close and attacking the opposition with a barrage of strikes.

Her aggression is the main thing that sets her apart from other females in the division.

It surprises the fighters and they have no answer to stop Cyborg's forward aggression. Should anyone figure this out it may just give them a fighting chance...maybe.

She Has Superior Striking Compared to the Other Female Fighters

Some may argue that Cyborg isn't the most technical fighter out there and that there are other females with better striking in the division, however they have yet to step forward.

Santos lands numerous devastating punches and kicks every fight and has knockout power.

I've watched a lot of female fights and I have not seen a fighter that strikes the way Cyborg does.  When she punches, it leaves a mark.

Cyborg Is Just Stronger Than the Other Female Fighters

3 of 5

Say what you want, but Cyborg is just down right stronger than all of the other female fighters in the division; she manhandles her opponents and tosses them around like rag dolls.

In this video of her training with Tito Ortiz, she picks him up and slams him onto the mats (3:30).

You can argue that she only picked him up a few inches, but I'd bet that no other woman fighting at 145 is going to pick up a guy that fights at 205 (and definitely significantly heavier than that) from that position.

Imagine what she would have done to a woman her own size.

Cyborg's Training and Conditioning Is Superior to All Others

4 of 5

Santos is dead serious when it comes to her training and it shows in the way she looks and fights.

In this video she is put through an intense workout with her strength coach, Rafael Alejarra, that would make the average person run away crying.

Her hard work and dedication in the gym is evident when she steps into the cage and her superior conditioning allows her to push the pace and overwhelm opponents.

No wonder she is the No. 1 pound-for-pound female fighter.

Female Fighters Are Afraid to Fight Her

5 of 5

Cris "Cyborg" Santos is such a dominant fighter that females are afraid to step into the cage with her; she hasn't had a fight since June 26, 2010 because Stikeforce can't find any willing opponents.

Hopefully Strikeforce lets Ronda Rousey fight Miesha Tate (and Ronda wins) so that fans will finally get to see what could be the fight of the year.

Cyborg's 10-1 record (with eight knockouts) has built her a solid reputation that gives her an advantage in all her fights.
