Mayweather vs. Pacquiao: De La Hoya Accuses Arum of Lying About Super-Fight
The eagerly anticipated super-fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao has been deemed a lie by Oscar De La Hoya. He stated that the person at the centre of the alleged falsehood is none other than Top Rank CEO Bob Arum.
According to abs-cbnNEWS.com, the six-division world champion and president of Golden Boy Promotions has averred that Arum lied to the public apropos the progressive nature of the negotiations for the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight, via Twitter.
"Bob Arum, please please stop lying to the public. Sit down with my CEO Richard (Schaefer) and make the big fight happen. Before Manny asks questions.
"
"The Golden Boy" went so far as to say that contrary to what Arum had earlier stated (that he was in fact talking with investors to help bring the super-fight to fruition), he believed that there was no veracity to what the latter had said.
"Hahaha Bob Arum is saying there are a bunch of investors he's talking to try and make PAC vs mayweather. I can't stop laughing.
"
In addition, De La Hoya suggested that Arum call GBP’s CEO Richard Schaefer to get the super-fight back in the mix of negotiations.
"Mayweather wants the fight, Bob has to do is call Richard," he said to Kevin Iole, Yahoo! Sports reporter. "Bottom line is, Mayweather wants Pacquiao, what's the hold up?" De La Hoya added.
Mayweather recently called out Manny at a family gathering, which more than indicates that his intentions are quite obvious.
Also, further information concerning the super-fight debacle has surfaced at Fighthype.com with regards to an apparent $150 million offer which was tabled to Arum sometime in April of this year.
This would’ve guaranteed $75 million apiece for both Mayweather and Pacquiao, but for some reason Arum surprisingly chose to ignore the offer.
And even worse, Pacquiao who has made suggestions to the fact that negotiations were underway (May 5 penciled in as a likely date) is himself supposedly oblivious to these behind-the-scenes dealings.
And, as the case may be, as an alternative to the proposed fight with Mayweather, Pacquiao could find himself in a fourth encounter with Juan Manuel Marquez, sooner rather than later.
Be that as it may, if there’s any truth in De La Hoya’s allegations of Arum's shady shenanigans, then it’s a real shame, as the ever-so-trusting public will have their hopes dashed once again.
