NFL Week 13 Picks: Obituary Notice for Teams Sure To Be Buried

John RozumDec 2, 2011

It's unfortunate for the following three franchises, but their playoff chances dim even more after Week 13. They don't get blown out; however, they do get buried even further back within the conference.

So to get right into it, here are three teams who drop even further after this week.

Buffalo Bills (vs Tennessee)

The Bills started fast but then fell from grace even faster. They're 5-2 beginning was nice until they dropped four straight and are barely alive for the postseason.

This week, Buffalo hosts a 6-5 Titans team needing a win to stay alive that appears to have gotten the ground game back on track. Buffalo's defense, as we know, struggles when they don't get INTs. Well, that music to the Music City's ears and they'll just get into a rhythm with RB Chris Johnson on the ground.

Offensively for Buffalo, they're now lacking a ground game and QB Ryan Fitzpatrick was in a deep slump until last week. That said, he may continue getting out of the slump but his WRs will continue as Buffalo's Achilles' heel.

Not to mention that with their ground game, Tennessee controls the tempo and the clock.

Kansas City Chiefs (at Chicago)

Despite their 4-7 record the Chiefs are still alive to win the AFC West. Unfortunately, they play at Chicago this week, who knows who to stop the run, which is Kansas City's lone strength.

Additionally, the Bears have arguably the NFL's best special teams play in return man Devin Hester and kicker Robbie Gould. The Chiefs defense may have a respectable pass rush, but that's not enough to stop RB Matt Forte.

Also, this game couldn't have come at a worse time for KC, because the Broncos play at Minnesota and the Raiders play at Miami (both expected wins). Therefore, not only do the Chiefs need a win over a superior opponent, but they need help from some of the NFL's worst teams.

In other words, all is falling apart for the Chiefs as that's been the case since they've dealt with too many injuries on top of everything.

Bears over Chiefs

Detroit Lions (at New Orleans)

It's definitely not going to be a blowout, but quite possibly an even higher scoring affair than when the Saints and Giants dueled last week.

However, the odds are against the Lions this week because New Orleans rarely loses at home and has an unstoppable offense, and Detroit is in a slump (started 5-0, 2-4 since).

What also hurts is the Saints being able to run the ball at will. Detroit has struggled in defending against the run all season long, and for as pass-oriented as the Saints are, they can be balanced if they need to.

As for the Lions offense, WR Calvin Johnson will dominate one of the NFL's worst pass defenses but, he alone won't be enough to rack up 30-plus points. Expect the Saints to blitz early and often, which will force early throws from Stafford as well as turnovers.

Detroit lacks a ground game, so New Orleans has no reason to respect it. In the end, the Lions dive further back in the NFC playoff picture, and visions of 2007 emerge like deja vu.
