Georgia vs. LSU: How Bulldogs Will Pull off Monstrous Upset vs. Tigers
Let's get this underway by saying this: I am predicting LSU to beat Georgia on Saturday.
That doesn't mean that Georgia can't win, though, which would set off BCS chaos that I am not sure any of us are ready for. Remember that Georgia's two losses this year came in the first two games. One to Boise State, the other to South Carolina. Both of those teams are strong.
Since then, the Bulldogs have rattled off 10 straight wins. The SEC isn't quite as deep this year as it has been in the past, especially in the East, but that's still a strong accomplishment.
Still, a win against LSU is a long shot. But if that upset is going to happen, it will be summed up with one word: Aggression.
On both sides of the ball, Georgia needs to test LSU to force the Tigers' playmakers to make those plays under pressure.
Jarvis Jones needs to attack the LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson. The Bulldogs can't be afraid of Jefferson's mobility. I know he's a great athlete and yes, he will make big plays. That's unavoidable. But Georgia must consistently force him to make quick decisions.
If Jefferson is given time, LSU will do more than enough offensively to win this game. Georgia needs to trust its secondary to keep the Tigers' receivers bottled up. If Jones can't get to Jefferson, then they need to bring blitzes. Anything to disrupt Jefferson's timing and make him act quick.
Offensively, things will be a little more difficult. LSU doesn't exactly have a secondary that you want to challenge. But Aaron Murray will need to do just that. Georgia doesn't have the one dominant receiver, as much they have a strong unit.
That group will need to challenge the depth of the LSU secondary. I know that LSU hasn't failed yet, but Georgia needs to play to its strengths and go at the talented Tigers.
Georgia can't be afraid of their opponent. That's basically the long and short of it. Yes, LSU will probably win this game. But if Georgia backs off and does anything conservative, they will lose.
Well, almost anything conservative.
There is one conservative thing that the Bulldogs must do. When Tyrann Mathieu is back to return a punt, kick it away from him. This will be a hard enough game to win as it is. The last thing Georgia needs is to have their backs broken by special teams.
Other than that, the Bulldogs' only chance at this game is to play with no abandon. That's the one consistent element of a massive upset. The underdog plays a fearless game and wins. If they play timid, we're looking at a blowout.
