College Football Recruiting 2012: 8 Recruits Most Likely to Decommit
I'm not saying these players will decommit. I'm just saying they are the most likely to decommit as it looks right now.
For this read, I'm going to give you a couple of recruits, who, based on their actions and what they're saying, show signs of a potential bailout from their commitments.
Here we go.
Names to Watch
1 of 5I'd keep an eye on DT Tommy Schutt. Schutt committed to Penn State, but with the scandal and coaching uncertainty there, he could really look around, especially with Urban Meyer now at Ohio State.
Cousins Deontay Greenberry and Tee Shepard are Notre Dame commits, but did take a trip to Arizona State recently.
Jelani Hamilton committed to Miami in the summer, but he had a strong push from Florida and Florida State. Also look out for LSU, North Carolina and Georgia.
Darreus Rogers, WR
2 of 5Now, Rogers is a player that I would be worried about if I were USC. First, he plays a position where you already have a wealth of young talent at, in the WR position.
He's committed to staying home and playing in Troy, but Rogers will take visits to Arizona State, Washington and Oregon, along with USC. SMU and Hawai'i have also been mentioned.
He's almost like a soft verbal right now, and those are never ideal. He's wavering, and could bail out if he gets scared away by the depth chart and has a fabulous visit to another school.
Dante Fowler, DE
3 of 5Fowler keeps saying he's solid to Florida State, but he has been spotted wearing Florida Gators clothing.
He's scheduled to be at Florida more times than Florida State this fall on various unofficial visits. Fowler has constantly flirted with the Gators, and even has said in the past that he would have committed to UF if Urban Meyer hadn't retired.
Jameis Winston, QB
4 of 5Now, with Winston, it doesn't seem like he's ready to bail, but where there's smoke, there's fire. In the summer, he committed to FSU over Alabama and LSU, and seemed locked down to the 'Noles.
But Winston has taken a couple unofficials to Tuscaloosa, and will likely take an official trip there, and to Baton Rouge.
I'm sure the community and state will continue to campaign for him to head to Alabama, just like what happened with Brent Calloway. FSU will have to stay on him hard, because 'Bama and LSU have not stopped their pursuit of the top QB.
Mario Edwards, DE
5 of 5ESPNU's top-ranked prospect, DE Mario Edwards, is pretty much looking around. I've even made some speculation myself.
Edwards says he's committed to FSU, "but Oklahoma and LSU are standing out." He also told Scout.com that he will likely take trips to Baton Rouge and Norman—and maybe a few others (Texas comes to mind).
Scout.com also lists him as an uncommitted prospect, so that is also a bad sign for FSU right now.
