Bama Is Back: We'll Always Remember 2008
Hello, this is my first article here, so I'm not quite sure what to expect—this just looked like a really fun place to write about college football. All my grammar might not be perfect, so bear with me. I am in college, but by no means am I an English major.
I am a huge Alabama Crimson Tide fan, and I just want to use this article to look back on the 2008 season and what a great season it was. I have been an Alabama fan ever since I can remember, and this is the best season I have ever seen. I am 19 so I was alive when Bama took the title back in '92, but being only three years old at the time, of course I do not remember anything about that season.
It is great to see Bama in the National spotlight. I love hearing older fans say this is the way it's supposed to be and reminisce back to the glory days under Coach Bryant. I wish I had been alive back in the '60s and '70s when Bama was king and everyone else just followed. This team accomplished a lot this year in terms of expectations, and I am very proud to call myself a fan of the Crimson Tide.
To recap this season, I think 99 percent of Bama fans didn't expect this season to go the way it did. Yes, I thought we would be in the Georgia Dome at the end of the season...playing in the Chick-fil-A bowl. Me and my friends expected an 8-4 season, and maybe a 9-3 season if we could beat someone we weren't supposed to.
Boy, did that change. 12-1 SEC West division champions and a berth in the Sugar Bowl. Nick Saban has turned this team around quicker than anyone imagined.
I love the blue-collar approach this team took. Having only nine seniors and a roster full of talented newcomers, Bama surprised everyone. John Parker Wilson showed leadership, confidence, and played his heart out this year. JPW is not the most talented quarterback around, but he led this team as best he could, and I am glad he was at the reins this year.
The offensive line was great, and Glen Coffee, Mark Ingram, and Roy Upchurch took full advantage. Julio Jones is just a great athlete, and I am very glad we have him for at least two more years.
The defense surprised me also. Some thought it would be suspect after the loss of Jimmy Johns and Zeke Knight before the season started. Donta' Hightower played a big role, and Rolando McClain proved he is one of the best linebackers in the nation. You have to mention Terrence Cody—what a force he is in the middle. He can disrupt an offensive line like no other based on his size.
Rashad Johnson, my favorite Bama player, led this defense. A great safety who I hope gets a shot in the NFL. He had this defense down pat and knew everyone's job in a certain scheme.
Well, I know this article is basically just me ranting about how great Bama was this year; but I love talking about sports and I wanted to write about this season. Nick Saban is leading Bama back to National prominence, and I am loving every minute of it.
I know there is really nothing to debate within this article, but please comment and give me a ROLL TIDE! Hope you enjoyed reading this, and I plan to keep writing maybe even about issues other than the Crimson Tide. Until then, ROLL TIDE! Beat the Utes!
