Week 13 Fantasy Rankings: Ranking the Stud Wide Receivers
A number of wide receivers have distinguished themselves as studs this season, thanks to breakout seasons being well-timed with great performances out of their respective quarterbacks.
Here, I examine four of the top fantasy wide receivers for Week 13. I'll explain why they'll do only good things for your team should you have them and give you fits if you're up against them.
Greg Jennings, Green Bay Packers (at New York Giants)
1 of 4The Green Bay Packers, with their highly-effective aerial offense helmed by quarterback Aaron Rodgers, has no shortage of talented receivers.
Though this has proven frustrating for the majority of fantasy owners who want a piece of the Packers' pie on their rosters, for owners of Greg Jennings, it's been nothing but good news.
Jennings is clearly Rodgers' No. 1 target, though others like receiver Jordy Nelson and tight end Jermichael Finley have fallen into favor for brief spells this year.
In 11 games, Jennings has scored eight touchdowns and has caught 58 passes for 835 yards.
He had five grabs for 74 yards and a touchdown in last week's contest against the Detroit Lions and has six games with 80 or more receiving yards this year, three of them for over 100 yards.
A sign of a talented wide receiver is his ability to get open and make big plays even with a good cornerback shadowing his every move.
Though Jennings will likely be covered by the New York Giants' Corey Webster this week, that doesn't mean he won't have a productive day.
Studs are studs, regardless of opponent, and Jennings has clearly earned that distinction this season.
Wes Welker, New England Patriots (vs. Indianapolis Colts)
2 of 4No wide receiver has as many yards this year as the New England Patriots' Wes Welker.
His 1,166 total yards from scrimmage are good enough to make him seventh in the league in total yards, and he's only likely to add to that number in a significant way when the Indianapolis Colts and their 31st-ranked defense comes to town this Sunday.
With eight touchdowns so far this year, he's already matched his personal best from 2007 and is on pace to shatter his career-high 1,348 receiving yards from 2009.
He's averaging just under 104 yards per game, and with the Colts giving up nearly 239 passing yards per game, he should have yet another 100-yard day.
Calvin Johnson, Detroit Lions (at New Orleans Saints)
3 of 4Though Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson hasn't had a 100-yard receiving game since Week 8, the matchup this week against the New Orleans Saints bodes well for his chances for his sixth triple-digit game of the season.
So far this year, Johnson has 63 catches for 1,023 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Though his numbers were held down last week against the Green Bay Packers' formidable secondary, catching just four passes for 49 yards and a score, he should have far less trouble against a Saints defense that ranks 26th overall against the pass.
Some of Johnson's trouble have come because his quarterback, Matthew Stafford, has been dealing with a broken finger on his throwing hand.
Now that the finger is healed and the splint and glove associated with the injury have come off, Stafford should have less trouble getting the ball down the field.
That means only good things for Johnson in a game that should be a shootout.
Mike Wallace, Pittsburgh Steelers (vs. Cincinnati Bengals)
4 of 4The Pittsburgh Steelers' Mike Wallace has had a slump in production recently, unable to get open at times and, at others, dropping perfectly tossed passes thrown his way.
That doesn't diminish the fact that he's the most elite wide receiver on a team full of talented targets for quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.
On the year, Wallace has 55 catches for 939 yards and six touchdowns.
He's averaging just over 85 yards per game and 17 yards per reception, making him one of the biggest-play receivers in the league right now.
Though Wallace struggled a bit in his team's first meeting against the Cincinnati Bengals, catching six passes for 54 yards and rushing twice for 31, he should manage bigger numbers in the passing game this week.
He's just too talented to be held down for long.
