ACC Basketball: 13 Players with the Most Turnovers so Far in '11-12
Turnovers can cost good teams games.
Coaches are always looking for ways to cut down on how many times that their team loses precious possessions through careless ball-handling, bad passes or any of a number of other bad decisions.
Here is a quick look at who is committing the most TOs in the ACC so far in the '11-12 season:
No. 10 (tied): Seth Curry, Austin Rivers, Bernard James and Okaro White
1 of 5Seth Curry (Duke), Austin Rivers (Duke), Bernard James (Florida State) and Okaro White (Florida State) all have committed 18 turnovers in their first eight games (2.25 per game).
Curry and Rivers are both guards. James and White are both bigs.
For guards, neither Curry (1.2) nor Rivers (1.0) have a good assists/turnover ratio.
James and White have each only handed out four assists, so their A/TO ratio is dreadful (0.22).
No. 7 (tied): Harrison Barnes, Kendall Marshall and Xavier Gibson
2 of 5Harrison Barnes (North Carolina), Kendall Marshall (North Carolina) and Xavier Gibson (Florida State) have each committed 19 turnovers.
Barnes, playing seven games so far, is averaging 2.7 turnovers per game. He has only handed out six assists this season, which gives him a dismal 0.3 assists-to-turnover ratio.
Marshall, the Tar Heels point guard, also is averaging 2.7 turnovers per game. However, he also has handed out 72 assists (10.3 apg) which gives him a fantastic 3.8 A/TO ratio. If he maintains this, Marshall could finish the season with the best A/TO ratio in the nation.
Gibson, another Seminole big man, has only handed out three assists, which gives him an abysmal 0.16 A/TO ratio.
No. 4 (tied): Patrick Heckmann, Mfon Udofia and Luke Loucks
3 of 5Patrick Heckmann (Boston College), Mfon Udofia (pictured; Georgia Tech) and Luke Loucks (Florida State) have all committed 20 turnovers.
Heckmann, a freshman wing six games into his collegiate career, has a 3.3 turnovers per game average. He has handed out 11 assists, giving him a 0.6 assists-to-turnovers ratio.
After seven games, Udofia, a junior guard, is averaging 2.86 turnovers per game. He has handed out 20 assists, so his A/TO ratio is 1.0.
Loucks, a senior wing, is averaging 2.5 tpg after eight games. He has handed out 25 assists, so he has an A/TO ratio of 1.25.
No. 3: Lorenzo Brown
4 of 5NC State's Lorenzo Brown, a sophomore combo guard, has committed 21 turnovers in seven games for an average of 3.0 turnovers per game.
Brown has dished out 44 assists so far, which gives him a notable 2.1 assists-to-turnover ratio.
No. 1 (tied): Mason Plumlee and Michael Snaer
5 of 5Mason Plumlee (Duke) and Michael Snaer (Florida State) have committed the most turnovers among ACC players so far in the '11-12 season with 23.
They both have played eight games, so they both are averaging 2.88 turnovers per game.
Both have handed out 16 assists so far, giving them each a 0.7 assists-to-turnovers ratio.
That's not good for either Plumlee or Snaer. But, the Seminoles need Snaer to take better care of the ball.
