Oregon Football: 5 Sure-Fire Bets for the Pac-12 Title Game

Joe PenkalaDec 1, 2011

With the Pac-12 title game now only a day away, the Bruins and Ducks are getting ready to battle it out in the conference's first title game.

Coming into the game, UCLA is a team dealing with a lot of changes and question marks both on and off the field. On the other side of the field, Oregon got back on track against Oregon State and are huge favorites in this game.

With the Rose Bowl on the line, here are five things you can count on when you sit down to watch the Pac-12 title game.

Kenjon Barner Leads the Ducks in Rushing

1 of 5

Coming into this game, everyone knows what a threat LaMichael James is in the rushing game, but people tend to overlook the importance of Kenjon Barner.

While James will get more then enough carries, the Ducks look to be up big early, which will allow Kenjon Barner to get more touches and eventually lead the Ducks in rushing yards.

UCLA Is Held Under 20 Points

2 of 5

Two factors are coming into play tomorrow night. The UCLA offense appears to have fallen off the tracks, and the Oregon defense has stepped up its effort since the middle of the season.

Oregon will look for a strong pass rush out of players like Dion Jordan and Terrell Turner and should be able to force some turnovers due to the pressure being put on by the speedy pass rushers.

Ducks Score More in One Quarter Than the Bruins Do All Game

3 of 5

With the explosiveness of the Oregon offense, the Ducks are capable of scoring quickly and putting a team behind early.

While the Ducks offense has gotten off to a slow start over the past couple of games, they will have a renewed focus with the Pac-12 title on the line. Look for the Ducks to have a quarter that accounts for my points than the Bruins score all game.

LaMichael James Scores Two or More Touchdowns

4 of 5

Just because LaMichael James won't lead the Ducks in rushing yards doesn't mean he won't sniff the end zone.

James is always a terrific back down near the goal line and has a way of being able to spring out the other side of a small hole and get in for six.

Against the Bruins, James and the Ducks may find themselves working on a short field, which will allow James to break into the Autzen end zone at least two times.

Ducks Cover

5 of 5

The average line on this game has ranged anywhere from 30 to 32 points. Any way you cut it, the Oregon offense is capable of putting up over 50 points, which means the Bruins must score 20 to keep this part of the game interesting.

While it is a lot of points to lay, the Ducks have two things working for them. First, the offense is explosive and can score a lot and do so quickly. Secondly, the Ducks second team is just as explosive, so in garbage time, the backups are generally able to put a score or two on the board.
