Jerry Sandusky: Penn State Scandal Deepens as New Alleged Victim Sues Sandusky
The first domino has officially fallen against Jerry Sandusky and this is just the tip of the iceberg.
A lawsuit filed against Sandusky on Wednesday alleges that he sexually abused an individual more than 100 times while threatening him if he didn’t keep quiet.
The 29-year-old accuser identified as John Doe says he never told anybody about the alleged abuse until Sandusky was charged in November. He is the first plaintiff to file a suit and will surely not be the last. ESPN has the details on the accuser’s specific interactions with Sandusky:
"The lawsuit claims Sandusky abused the boy from 1992, when the boy was 10, until 1996, at the coach's State College home, in a Penn State locker room and on trips, including to a bowl game. The account echoes a grand jury's description of trips, gifts and attention lavished on other alleged victims.
"I am hurting and have been for a long time because of what happened, but feel now even more tormented that I have learned of so many other kids were abused after me," the plaintiff said in a statement his lawyer read aloud at a news conference.
"
The story is very similar to the grand jury report presented against Sandusky and it gives you an eerie sense of déjà vu.
The gifts and the travel were his way of keeping the boys happy. He didn’t want to help them; he wanted to shut them up. It’s the clearest sign that he knew he was wrong in his actions and doesn’t have some sort of mental problem.
With another story like this coming out, it’s hard to see a scenario where more victims don’t step forward in the next month. Sandusky’s alleged grotesque behavior had been going on for decades and the victims could potentially be in the hundreds.
They have been keeping the painful memories inside of them for years, or even decades, and feel confident enough to come forward now that the lid has been completely blown off. Each individual now knows they aren’t the only victim in this. They don’t have to worry about ruining Penn State because they came forward.
The front page headlines may be over for Penn State scandal, but the lasting impact isn’t going away anytime soon.
The dominoes are only beginning to fall.
