Week 14 College Football Picks: LSU and More Conference Championship Game Locks
It's conference championship week in college football, and there are several intriguing games on the slate. Several automatic BCS bids are up for grabs, while other teams are playing purely for bowl positioning. Whatever their individual case, here are three teams that will cruise to victory in Week 14.
No. 1 LSU (vs. Georgia)
Prevailing wisdom seems to be that LSU will make the BCS National Championship Game even if they lose to Georgia, but head coach Les Miles is making sure his players don't get too caught up in that hype. He wants his team to win this game just like they have done every other week this year.
The Tigers face off with Georgia, who couldn't be much hotter coming into the game. The Bulldogs have picked up 10 straight wins, but none of those triumphs came against a team anywhere near the caliber of LSU.
Look for the Tigers' dominant defense to make life extremely difficult on Aaron Murray, whose improvement is the biggest reason Georgia has reached this point. Forcing him into a couple mistakes is all it will take for LSU to roll into New Orleans undefeated.
No. 6 Houston (vs. Southern Miss)
Houston's top-ranked offense has put them in prime position to crash the BCS party. All the Cougars must do now is take care of business against Southern Mississippi on Saturday. The Golden Eagles rank 24th in the latest BCS standings.
Case Keenum and Patrick Edwards have been on the same page all season. It's been quite a sight to see the combo effortlessly lead Houston's offense up and down the field. Even though Southern Miss is no slouch, it's hard to imagine them making enough stops to pull off the upset.
Assuming the Cougars survive, it will be interesting to see if their high-powered offense will be able to maintain the same level of efficiency against a power conference defense.
No. 9 Oregon (vs. UCLA)
Oregon benefits from USC being ineligible to claim a bowl bid because they getting an inferior UCLA team instead. Not to mention, the Trojans have already beaten the Ducks. That said, you can't blame Oregon for playing they hand its been dealt.
LaMichael James, Kenjon Barner and the rest of the Ducks' numerous ball carriers should have a field day against a Bruins defense that is allowing five yards per carry. And whatever they can't accomplish will be handled by Darron Thomas, who has a plus-22 touchdown-to-interception ratio.
UCLA just doesn't possess nearly enough playmakers to hang with Oregon for 60 minutes, which means the Ducks will be making their third straight trip to a BCS game.
